Gilgamesh > Paradigm

Seventh Part of the Seal
I've been going over the specs and design of both the WC2 destroyer and the Privateer destroyer. After comparing the stats, the Paradigm doesn't give me the impression that it could hold out in a fire fight with its earlier equivalents from either the Kilrathi or the Confed. It is classified as a destroyer, but what is its overall purpose? Supposedly this ship is an advanced prototype of some kind, presumably undergoing trial runs in a backwater system before moving to the front lines.

But what would it's job be? Would it actually be used as a loan seek and destroy ship that is used to hunt down enemy caps like we see with the Gilgamesh? I hope not...

No this ship appears more to be designed for the role as a "Destroyer Escort." Perhaps for guarding ships and/or outposts against fighter attacks as it has the right weapons to pick off any fighter attack. Or perhaps a pack hunter? Two or three of them to hunt down an enemy force with a wing of bombers?

Any thoughts?

I think whomever designed it had a cool idea I mean it does look pretty wild but.....as far as the stats it kinda flops. Who knows what the privateer designers were thinking. It should have stats similar if not better then the sheffield type destroyers. (For it was around the same time WC3/WC4 Time wise). But then think again it's a large universe I'm sure at the time there's more destroyer types and more ships then we'll ever get to see. Think.....There's probably other fighter types, We just don't run get to run across them.

Its just ingame stats. It's supposed to be rather advanced.

Besides, does Privateer have any military ships that don't suck?

I think you've run into some especially nasty fanon -- think very carefully, is there any point in Privateer where you're told that Paradigms are advanced prototypes being tested? Or where anyone says anything about the Paradigm at all? :)

This is probably an unusually specific twisting of the manual's short description, which simply says that the Paradigm-class is "one of the Confederation's most advanced destroyers". We know that they're at least five years old in Privateer--we see the TCS Paradigm herself in an Origin FX module, with a description that dates it to 2664 (the more difficult claim to square away is OFX's claim that the TCS Paradigm is the Confederation's flagship).

You're thinking about this too hard; any of us who have flown in the Gemini Sector know exactly what Paradigms are for because we've seen them doing their job--primarily border patrol and piracy interdiction missions.

I don't think we see the Gilgamesh as a space submarine, though--they show up in Wing Commander II and the movie novelization, both as escorts for heavier warships.

(Also 'lone', not loan.)

The fact is, though, that there were a handful of carrier groups on both sides getting all the glory… but there were thousands and thousands of any given destroyer class, covering the hundreds upon hundreds of star systems that weren't the focus of major fleet actions at any given time. Some massive percent of battles in the war were likely along the lines of single Paradigms facing off against Ralathas.

I think it's pretty easy to figure what they were thinking--that the game needs a Confederation equivalent to the Kamekh, to balance the game for players who align themselves with the bad guys. A game designer isn't worrying about how it might compare to future space destroyers in games that don't exist yet, he's worried about how it will play in his game (which means a tough target for the player, but not an impossible one).

Pretty damn close. Toughest capship kill ever for me!

Well I will admit that the privateer I got was a second hand copy that had neither the manual nor the box. Funny thing though, I think that I actually heard that ON HERE back before I became a member and just checked out the discussion.
