Gerald's suspect?

Seventh Part of the Seal
I was wondering whether or not Gerald knew Paladin was a Pilgrim before he revealed himself. He completely mistrusted Paladin and treated him like Blair, even after he found out that Paladin outranked him.

Just thought he was an ---hole in general and the pilgim thing was just an excusse to well...be himself.
Heck, even after HIS commanding officer told him that it would have NO bearing on his duties (blairs) he still kept going on about it. Grounds for summery exacution if you ask me ;)
why couldn't that peice of sraptnal hit hiom in the head instead.....;)

I disagree. Gerald's family was slaughtered by Pilgrims, thats enough to make anyone bitter. Also, quite a few of his fears turned out to be correct, directed wrongly, but correct. Cpt. Sansky turned out to be a Pilgrim as did Admiral Wilson.

only wc book i didn't read:(
thats what i hate about movies sometimes. they don't give you all that backstory.
Reading the books helps. however, when your going to make a guy HATE the grims like he did it would have been nice to know why. At least then he wouldn't come across as such a flaming ---hole. Instead you'd have a little compassion for the poor guy, as i do now :(

I can't remember off hand if the cut scenes in the movie mentioned Geralds family. However, even if they aren't some kind of magic pill, I think the movie in general would have been better off if they had left in the traitor subplot.

I think it's as simple as Gerald not trusting Paladin because Paladin delivered (and stood up for) Blair.

I don't think there was - he wasn't supposed to be a sympathetic character in the movie... we were supposed to think he was terribly wrong and then feel good when he finally realized this after the knife fight. Telep realized he needed to work with Gerald later and added the backstory about his father being mutilated in the war... (in Pilgrim Stars.)
