Freespace Returns! (April 1, 2006)

Long Live the Confederation!
Hot on the heels of Electronic Arts' recent release of Command & Conquer: The First Decade comes exciting news for space sim fans: Volition, Inc. plans to repackage and resell the second most popular Descent spinoff as Freespace: The Only Two Years. Lead developer Mike Kulas, who still feels his exceptionally large capital ships are underappreciated, says the company hopes that the new release will bring in money from freeloading Lunix junkies who became attracted to the series because it was released for free years after its genre-deadening flop rather than because of its actual gameplay. The game will retail for $59.99 and will include a collectable Freespace coaster.

Features will include:
* Nebulas that look like toothpaste (Freespace 1) and nebulas that look slightly less like toothpaste (Freespace 2).
* Much of the gameplay of Wing Commander: Prophecy, without the constant worry of interesting plot or character interactions.
* The Wing Commander Saga mod (coming 2011)
* Precious little else.

But I liked Freespace

I don't see what was bad about Freespace, I did love the story and it had alot of cool missions and concepts. I personally believe that Capships should royally whip a single fighter in combat, but that I suppose is another thread. :)

those pics are accualy from decent 1 not freespace (who givs a **** anyway) which BTW kicks A**. especialy if you hook up 2 joysticks, theres the arcade feeling for ya

We do this every year? Time for me to hit the archives. Sounds like I've been missing out. Was that collectable freespace coaster about ~4 in diameter and shiny-like on one side? If so it's more like 3-5 coasters, so that you can have a matching set.

Btw... what was the subtly mentioned "most popular descent spin-off?"
