Favorite Wing Commander Battle/Mission

From all the games, movies, books, cartoons..., what's your favorite mission/battle? For me this probably changes from week to week, but the one that comes to mind now is the Battle of Vukar Tag from End Run. It was great following Confed as they came in with overwhelming odds and crushed the Kilrathi is a straight up fight.

Vampire Escort Duty in Prophecy, the first endevour in the good 'ol Vamp, enuff missiles to smoke every frakkin bastard this side of the universe....(Squids are suckers to missiles, two would kill 'em)

I would have to say my favourite battle has got to be the Battle of Earth from Fleet Action. To see humanity realy pushed to the brink of extinction and throwing everything they had at the Kilrathi supper carrier's. It's gotta be a classic.

The strike in the Venice Offensive in WC1 - mission: to destroy a Kilrathi Command Center. Just you and your fellow wingman (Hunter) against overwhelming odds.

Certainly made Christopher Blair the hero we know today.

The Battle of Earth has a special place in my heart. As for an in-game battle/mission, I'm really partial to the final mission of WC2.

Right now, its the last mission of SO1 (I think it was the last mission, anyway), with a full 4 sabres vs a bunch of Kilrathi fighters and a pair of capships that both know how to use their AMGs.

The Prophecy mission where you paint the transport for Midway's plasma gun rates high too. And then there's finally getting to whup Flash in WC3, capturing the capship in UE, nearly every mission in Standoff... now that I have to think about it, there's way too many awesome missions. Taking out the Vesuvius in WC4... some of the missions in Privateer and RF are really cool too... and any mission in which you get to see the Concordia fire its guns in WC2.

The Tarawa's End Run into the Kilrah system...and the accompanying Battle of Vukar Tag..definately cleaned the kats clocks...

i agree the battle of Vukar Tag was quite impressive, i just wish they had more detail on it, it seemed that the battle started and then the concordia shows up to save the tarawa, nothing much on the actual battle.

Battle of earth was pretty neat too.

Concordia leaves the battle before they had finished mopping up in order to get to the Tarawa in time. It is too bad there aren't to many details of what happened during the battle, but we do know the results. I don't have my copy of ER handy but I'm sure someone can fill in the blank. It was an impressive victory for the confederation.

Basically Confed used their advantage in numbers and surprise and pressed the advantage to the conclusion. The way it was written really made me feel immersed in the battle and it was easy to visualize what was going on. The marine's basically mopped things up on the ground and desecrated the Kilrathi shrine (which was their objective in the mission).

Great job by the intelligence dept. in figuring out what to do to get the Kilrathi to do exactly what Confed wanted. That's the only battle I can think of where Confed had complete superiority from start to finish. Usually it's a desperate battle where they're outnumbered, outgunned, and have to use strategy alone to win. If all battles were like this I would find it boring. Since it's so rare, it was refreshing to watch the Kilrathi get completely pwned from start to finish.

Confed did not have an advantage in numbers. It was facing 7 heavy carriers that carried the best the kilrathi had to offer. Confed was able to win because they hit the kats when they were committed to a ground assault. They jumped in when the assault troops were in their ships and the fighters were loaded with anti-installation munitions instead of torps. Confed launched a large first strike that swept through their carriers and troop transports. They also took losses however within their own capships. One carrier lost and one heavily damaged.

Confed won by setting the place and time of battle and having superior knowledge of their enemy's intentions. They were the ones outnumbered and outgunned.

the most rememberable wc mission for me will always be this wing commander (1) kurasawa mission where you had to capture the ralari which was being attacked by a few wings of grathas. I managed to save the ralari just once on my first wing commander run when I was still very unexperienced (took me a few tries though). later on when I was replaying it I couldnt do it again.

I think Vukar Tag is the Confed's "Battle of Midway." Only time to my knowledge that Confed is more or less able to dictate the terms of the engagement, is able to suprise the Kilrathi fleet while its conducting ground operations, turns the war around for Confed (they can't keep their advantage though), and intelligence plays major role in determining the unfolding of the campaign.

As for favorite battles, in the literature I'll have to go with the entire Battle of Earth campaign. In-game either the Kilrah run in WC3 or the last mission in WC2.

This one just came to mind. I really enjoyed the mission in WC2 where you escort a Gilgamesh destroyer to engage a Kilrathi capital ship.

my favourite mission was the WC3 Endmission with all , well let's call 'em "Parts" you know , the flights to the refuel station, the atmosperic strike on kilrah.... was there a refuel station? damn I played this mission 2 years ago and don't remember...o/O

I believe there was 2 stations both of which refueled and rearmed and the second armed you with the allmighty T-bomb.

actually the TBomb seemed kinda gimpy til you saw the path it took into the faultline... wonder who coded the guidance AI for that thing...

That is correct. The first depot is close to the jump point you use to get to kilrah and the 2nd one is closer to Kilrah and has 2 t-bombs at it I think, in case Blair wanted someone else to have one. In the novel he chooses not to though.
