Episode 3 Ralatha Ambush (losing path)

I'm playing through what I think is the last mission and it seems a bit odd. Soon after launching Freyers complains that I've "once again failed to destroy the Ralatha, now we have to try running past it". Sometimes a pilot will shout "capital ship destroyed!" or whatnot, but there's no capship in sight.

Then we go to the jump point, engage some Kilrathi, and escort the Firekka for a few minutes. Then up ahead a Fralthi shows up guarding the jump point and a Ralatha jumps in right ontop of us. Soon after, no matter what I do, the Firekka is destroyed. I have no idea how to even begin saving it. I even tried shooting down the torpedoes. How exactly am I supposed to save her and what's up with the odd communications at the beginning?

This is supposed to happend when all the ships that launched (plus the Drake, if you kept it alive) have expanded their torpedoes and cannot destroy the Ralatha anymore... the the Firekka will try to force it's way through but will be destroyed trying. Pick the Gladius in this mission (IIRC you can) so you have enough torps to destroy it by yourself if the other pilots can't.

The odd communication, though, is a bug. Which mission in particular was this? Can you give us the exact name from the mission log?

I'm not sure what it's called but it's the final mission in Weslyn on the way to Sirius in episode 3. As far as picking a Gladius, I can't. The mission starts right away with me being in a Rapier. The Firekka says it's launching Gladii to deal with the Ralatha but nothing seems to result from this because the Firekka is destroyed very quickly afterwards.

Ahhh, ok I see wich mission it is. There is nothing more you can do than save the Gladii and allow them to do their work, then.

Well, I'll try again but the Firekka is destroyed literally within a minute of the Ralatha's arrival. I don't think the Gladius even have a chance of destroying it in time. I'll try again though.

Okay, the mission in question occurs only if you destroy the Fralthi. If you fail in destroying the Fralthi then the Firekka approaches the Sirius jump point, engaging a Ralatha and Fralthi in the process. Ironically this mission against two capships is a lot easier than the one I'm on. I was able to beat it on the first try and finish the episode.

The mission in question however occurs pretty much like I stated earlier. If you succeed in destroying the Fralthi, in the next mission you launch in a Rapier and are berated by Freyers for not destroying the Ralatha again. You then jump to the Sirius jump point and take out about 5 cat fighters. Afterwards the Firekka slowly approaches the Sirius jump point. At the moment that the destroyed hulk of the Firekka comes into view, a Ralatha jumps in directly above the Firekka in an apparent ambush. Freyers states that they are launching Gladii and 10 seconds later the Firekka is destroyed. It is quite impossible to let the Gladii do their work because the Firekka is wiped out too quickly.

And since I'm in a Rapier, I can't do anything myself. The Firekka is consistantly destroyed within seconds of launching Gladii. Consequently I can't finish the episode.

Well, yes I tried that. But there is no time to do that. By the time I destroy two Gothri, the Firekka is destroyed. I tried hitting the torpedoes fired from the Ralatha, but I didn't see any at all. The carrier is simply destroyed too quickly for me to successfully intervene.

Yeah, it's obviously a bug - for some reason, the game decides that you don't have any Gladii, even though the Firekka hasn't had any time to launch them yet.

Whether it's a bug or just an impossibility to win, it gives you a challenge, but if Freyers is sayng 'dammit you didn't destroy the ralatha' when i dont think you got the chance to anyway,it's all in all probable that you can't win.

by the way, when a mission is failed, does anyone hate Freyers for his 'another failure against totally surmountable odds Bradshaw?' quote, he really does make you feel like crap, HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT BLOODY KRANT WAS OFF IN THE OTHER DIRECTION, maybe I should use the navmap a bit more but one things for sure, I'd love to see Freyers fly a fighter and fail a mission.

Q and Pete, what mission are they talking about? (there are some variants so I am not sure) I´ll play it to track that bug down.

I just played through the losing track - I made it through the mission without any problems (aside from dozens of fighters hounding me). I tried focusing on the Ralatha's turrets and took them out; I never touched the Fralthi, the other fighters took that one out. Both capships were dropped, and we took down the fighters and jumped to Sirius.

I also failed on the mission where you are supposed to sweep through all the fighters so that the Firreka can hide away. How much does that change I wonder? I'm not sure what's up... I wasn't doing so well, and somehow I never had the problem of another ship popping out and nuking the Firekka... I was fully expecting a Snakeir or something to just show up and rip us to pieces.

Well, the difference is that you had to take care of both capships in one mission. Normally, you'd first attack the Fralthi, and then the Ralatha. Also, there's the tiny matter of stealth fighters...

But yeah, overall the difference isn't that great - no matter what you do, the basic amount of resources the Kilrathi have in this system is the same.
