Hello there, im really interested in trying your privateer remake but the links in the download section dont seem to work for me. can we download the beta or its a closed beta?

Hello Uther and welcome.

The beta is available for the public so the links should be working, please try it again. You may have a problem because we moved the downloads today to another place. Well, i suggest you wait for 0.8 it will pop up soon. Feel free to report bugs, problems and suggestions to this forum.

Thanks.

oh sweet! now it works!!! cant wait to try it! thanks for the fast reply john and hellcat. im gonna test your hardwork right away!

its so cool, i tried to reinstalled my old copy of privateer earlier this week, download dosbox, etc played a little but it was so ugly (guess im spoiled by the new graphic engines hehe) so i decided to check the web for privateer stuff when i stumble upon this site. i couldnt believe it at first lol its exactly what i was looking for. alright enough talk, time to play!!!

i downloaded priv-008 and i must say: IM IN LOVE!!! its like a dream come true, the best game ever with a good graphic engine! big thanks to you guys!!!

here are my observations so far:

-im getting ass kicked real bad lol i pick a 1 target mission and end up with 3-4 baddies waiting for me (from now on, im carrying vaseline with me lol) at the easiest setting its better, the enemies just have lasers, hurts lot less than meson blaster!

-sometimes the enemies are not at the waypoint, gotta go to another waypoint, come back, a couple times before they show up. (dunno if its a bug, but i think it adds to realism that the mob dont sit at a waypoint waiting for ya)

-is there a way for keymapping? like a key for closest ennemy?

-i have some problem with the nav map, can you pick a destination on the map to go to cause i havent figured how. i select my nav (planet, jump, station) in flight with the target button instead of chosing it on the nav map

-i have trouble reading the mission briefing that people in the bar give you (maybe its the resolution, 1280*1024) its really small hehe

-dunno who designed the target screen, but damn... he's a god. best target screen i ever seen in any flight sim games! love how the enemy hull turun red to show damage, great design!

-gorgeous graphics, love how you guys keep the same music!

So no serious bugs so far. I'm loving it and gonna stay up all night!! heh gonna post here for my next comments!

thanks again for making my dream come true!

have a look in vegastrike.config, in the main privateer folder. It has all the keybindings, which you can change at will. You will see a line like
<bind key="h" modifier="none" command="NearestTargetKey" />
'h' basically cycles through hostiles. It should start with the nearest one.
-i have some problem with the nav map, can you pick a destination on the map to go to cause i havent figured how. i select my nav (planet, jump, station) in flight with the target button instead of chosing it on the nav map
You can use the 'n' key to cycle through nav points. It works just like the 't' key but skips units. You can select nav points on the Navscreen: click on a nav point (or ship) with your mouse, and it will then be targetted when you exit the nav screen.
-i have trouble reading the mission briefing that people in the bar give you (maybe its the resolution, 1280*1024) its really small hehe
8-0 I haven't tested at that resolution, I can believe that might be a problem. Search for "font_point" in the config file and change it to something larger, see if that helps. Note, it shows up several times, once in each of the various detail levels.

Make sure you change the one in the detail level you are using (when in doubt change them all heh) Hellcat, maybe we could have the font_point in the resolution section instread of detail level? That way it would change with the resolution..

Thanks for giving this a spin, looking forward to your feedback after the all-nighter :D

Ok, the most important comment i have is: THIS GAME ROCKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!! its totally awesome, think i would even pay to play it!! =)

Now for the minor stuff:

-i changed the font like you said mamiya and it works perfectly now! =)

-if i get 2 kill ship mission at the same waypoint, usually i can just complete one. maybe the other enemy ships jump out of system,i dont know. i gotta land somewhere and come back to the wypoint many times before they show up.

-is it possible to see in the mission selection screen at what waypoint the enemies are before selecting the mission?

-confed ships: i think its an awesome idea that we can buy them! i tried to buy a gladius but there seem to be a little problem. i cant seem to equip it. i mean i can buy upgrades but they dont seem to be the same price as listed. example: i buy a meson blaster listed as 2000 credits, but when i buy it,it cost me like 20000 credits. is it suppose to be that way?

Look for a line in the mission description that says 'shiptype.blank', that's the target. The last line is the number of escorts, or absent if there are no escorts.

yea moonsword, thats no problem. but suppose i get 2 missions at the same waypoint, for example 2 missions to kill 3 pirates each, i will end up with 3 pirates at the say waypoint but the other 3 wont be there.

that's very odd
you sure you flew through the nav point for instance?

are you sure both missions had the same nav point as a destination? I've never had this--then again I usually take 1 bounty at a time

when you say you have 2 missions at the same waypoint--is that what your Objective screen says?
when you get close one objective changes and the other does not? I don't see why landing/launching would help one iota...unless your objective list gets changed

if you don't see an objective list hit 'o' to get one

yeah exactly what my objective screen says, fly to jump panderes, kill talon blank pirate. 2 missions like that for the same waypoint and another mission for another waypoint, say war nav point. so i go to the war nav point, kill the pirates and get paid. i go to the panderes nav point, kill the pirates that were supposed to be there for the first mission and get paid, but the pirates for my second mission at panderes nav point arent there and wont show up. i have to go land somewhere and come back to that nav to have them appear. its not much of a problem since they usually spawn after i landed somewhere.

i see my 3 objectives on my objective screen, when i kill some pirates, one of the objective is complete but there's no more enemies for the second objective at the same nav point.

thanks for the report--we'll try to look into correcting this-- for now try taking 1 bounty and 1 patrol and 1 defend or something

sure no problem! btw, is there a way to check a universal map, like wich jump gate leads to desired destination? example, im in troy and wanna go to new detroit, how can i make a flight plan easily without going through all the jump gates til i find the one i want

Interesting problems. I've also never experienced one f the bounty targets not being around. Occasionally bounty targets will flee through the jump gate, forcing you to ollow them to another system. It doesn't sound like that is what is happening to you since they do show up eventually. Also keep in mind that the ai does move around sometimes, it could be that one of your targets has simply made his way elsewhere in system. I'll certainly watch for it while playing.

The map only shows up as you explore, as you've seen. Sometime it would be nice to make maps purchaseable like in the original.. Until then, check out a map online somewhere (wcnews.com has a nice one ;) ) I never really thought about it since many of us have the map memorized already hehe. Obviously not everyone will of course.

Weapon prices might be slightly variable, but you should not get charged more than the buy screen says. Will watch for it.

Thanks!

aww, thats it! i was sure you could buy maps in the original one, i went to many bases and planets to check if they were selling them hehehe

one little comment about the gladius, its a really nice ship but the way the weapons are placed on the ships, they are not really effective. i mean, the firing arc is too large, like if you fight talons, only the middle cannon hits the target. you think it would be possible to bring the weapons closer to the ship nose?

met my first kilrathis yesterday, my comment: HOT DAMN! really great job on modeling em! they look incredible!! and the kamekh kicks major ass hehe

we should make the map purchase stuff...I had just forgot about it.... :)
that would be trivial.

as far as the gladius is concerned...it helps you hit targets when they evade...
just put the expensive guns on the left... remember the gladius isn't supposed to be a match for many ships like the centurion...it's supposed to be able to take a talon but not much more...

the militia needs the guns to be wide because they usually fly with a coffee cup in the left hand and a doughnut in the right--makes it awful hard to keep the joystick steady
