Origin having been absorbed, and AFAIK now, its successor, EA, now functionally out of business, is there a site that collected the equivalent of manuals, walkthroughs, guides, etc., and is still functioning ?

My youngest grandkid played one of the arcade style games (I think it was Crimson Skies) and got interested, and just before my ex-daughter in law shut down all contact, I'd acquired a couple of the DOS-based WC games (II & III, specifically) to let him play here at my place. The older grandkids have no similar interest, however I am intrigued by what I've seen so far (either I wasn't similarly taken by the premise, or else I was just too busy to play games back when these were current -- probably the latter).

I've always had a lot of my older PC hardware that didn't get sold, traded off, or given away, so I can use an original 486 PC from whenever that was current, if I want to do so, or a K6-2 350 from the earlier Windows95 period. I would prefer using the "DOS 7" in Windows98se, if that works well enough.

I don't have any early Pentium hardware any more. I did have a Pentium I, MMX 233 until last spring, but a nephew has that now (and I kinda wish I'd kept the old case that one had been in!)

Sure, if I had to, I could struggle with Win2000 or XP to run these with DOSbox, although I am avoiding Vista at least until SP-1, maybe even longer.

How about a few starting up suggestions?

Here is a good place to start for the WC manuals you are looking for.

And here is the CIC's local Game Guides section.

Basically everything you need related to WC can be found here at the CIC. Good hunting and good luck.

It would seem that Google and a fortunate choice from the hits listed brought me to where I needed to be. Thanks.

Yeah its pretty sad, how many of us would be completely out of buisness right now if not for this site?

How many other gamers are out in the cold once Origin and EA came crashing down... someone should really create a website for the lost souls of gaming. Those poor people who love a game so, but have no way to discuss it, or the unlucky sobs who bought an online game that turned out to suck and no one played it, resulting in those who did enjoy it being unable to find a server... hmmm, I think I'm on to something here...:p
