Difference Between WC4/WC3 PC version and PS1 versions

Hi, I stumbled upon your forum and i love Wing Commander.

Anyone ever notice that the Playstation Versions of wingcommander have less movie scenes than the PC versions?

Any truth to this?

Half-truth.

The Playstation version of Wing Commander III has *more* video than the PC version. It adds newsbrief sequences, ground attack videos and the Hobbes' explanation which were cut from the PC release.

The Playstation port of Wing Commander IV cuts quite a bit of video, to fit the game onto four CDs instead of six. Things like the entire 'Circe' optional series of the game are removed to make this possible.

Also, the PS1 version of WC3 doesn't have that canyon run with the bomb. :(
Neither PSX versions (3,4) have ground missions due to technical limitations. In the case of WC3 there are different missions in their place along with the aformentioned extra cgi FMV of the Kilrah bombing run for example.

WC4 I don't think does this. But the WC$ PSX as a whole has great pacing and is kind of an abridged version (4 cds as opposed to the PCs 6). Pretty much all the PC controls are present in the wc3 psx version through various button combos. There is psx joystick support but not for the analog stick. WC4 though there was a conscious effort to simplify the controls and they added support for the analog stick and a number of Rumble effects. The result is that its a lot more playable on the regular analog controler than wc3 psx for those who don't have a PSx Joystick.

To some degree the video is also higher quality (cleaner at least) in WC3 PSX than the PC version (you dont get that sticky pixel stuff for example) But the video actually seems to suffer in the PSX wc4 (maybe to squeeze in more video at lower quality.)

It does, but differently.

It cuts the Circe-series ground missions entirely by simply removing that entire track. For the three Tyr-series ground missions it has alternate briefing videos and then changes the missions themselves. Eisen orders you to search three spacelabs instead of three ground installations in the first mission and then in the second you have to escort the marine shuttle to one (or all three, if you lose the first mission) of them.

yeah, I picked up cut scenes off the net on the ground missions for WC4 was wondering what happened to those. Hmm for fairness I should probably get both PC versions as well.

Is it possible to run WC3 and WC4 (PC versions) on the pc even if the its running XP?

WC4 easily runs in XP with the win95 patch. WC3 can be a bit trickier.

As already discussed, there are no ground battle scenes added to WCIVPSX - the game simply alters the briefings. To the best of my knowledge, no one has put these online (they differ only slightly, showing different 'wireframe maps' for the missions).

You can find the WC3 ground sequences in our files section: https://www.wcnews.com/files.shtml

I advise playing WC4 on the pc before the Playstation, you get a lot more dialogue options and alot more scenes (both on the Lex and intrepid)
