Recent space sim Dark Horizon is here and hitting the review circuit. Naturally, certain comparisons will be made! Unfortunately, it sounds like they aren't entirely positive. GameZine.co.uk says:
    411mania.com says:
Additionally, GamersHell.com has posted a trailer for the game; they call it "a stark and atmospheric space combat simulation which follows along the same lines of classics like Wing Commander and Freelancer." (And one slight fact check -- because of the massive differences between copies sold to make a hit game and tickets sold to make a hit movie, it's likely far more people saw the Wing Comamnder movie than ever bought the game. Go figure!)

While not totally on the subject of WC, it's good to see the Russian developer Akella continue to contribute to the gaming market, I try to get my hands on everything they have a part of, and typically its mechanics are great. Ever since Sea Dogs, I've kept my eye on them.

Nothing odd in more people seeing this movie then buying the game.

In the early 90's pirated copies were common, not only from games but also from business software like wordperfect.

Everyone who had a joystick had a copy of wing commander.

I partially made up for it, I bought the game at least 7 times. :p

I watch alot of sci-fi and play alot of sci-fi games and I had quite alot of trouble trying to understand the different factions and the actual underlying storyline other than "get the big light bulb glow to get rid of the murk to save the universe" Some of the communication between your wingmen is quite inane and confusing (I am drawing a mental line and have consumed their death aura to enhance the seers pantaloons, springs to mind.)

I'm still not sure if that alien faction that turned up was to do with the Murk and if anyone can explain to me why the cloned ghost ships started turning up that would be good!

The game has its bugs sure but it plays quite well and ship customization is great fun, hopefully this will give the modding community a new engine to play with!

I did find it a little short in terms of missions and variety but all in all good fun :)
