Continuity bug...?

Just played through Ep1 again, and noticed something slightly odd.

If you fail to find the Pirate base at the first attempt, you'll go on a four-point patrol, escorting the Lionheart to nav-1 with a number of Stilettos and Gladii.

Trigger is flying one of the Lionheart's Gladii in this mission, but we haven't met him yet...:)
 
Sounds pretty likely :p. Trigger really turned into a Militia pilot by accident - originally, he was just one of the Lionheart pilots. Then we decided that we need to give the player some Militia reinforcements for the final mission, and Trigger ended up leading them. There's a few other traces of this that we'll be fixing [when the next patch finally comes out] - Trigger appearing on the Lionheart killboard and such.
 
Odd. It's been a while since I played the first episode, but my impression is that Trigger was always supposed a Militia pilot. His conversation with Bradshaw about him having tangled with cats before and came home while the Kilrathi didn't, supports this, in my mind.

But, of course, given that you made the game, I can't argue with you if he really was always a Confederation pilot.

Well, he tells you that he's tangled with the Cats before in Episode 2, by which time it's already established that he's a militia pilot - but if you read his Bio on the Standoff website, it explains that Trigger used to be a Confed pilot based at Perry and was removed from service for assaulting a superior officer - ending up as a Militia pilot in the Gemini backwaters.

No no, I was referring to what happened on the production end - originally, Trigger was just a Confed pilot, and then we turned him into a Militia pilot.

Storywise, you're correct - at the start of Episode 2, he's a Militia pilot pressganged into Confed service. Though there's a bit more to it than that, as -danr- points out. Having made him a Militia pilot, we needed to explain why he's as good as most other Confed pilots, and why he's such a nutcase :).

But, here's a little bit of trivia about Trigger that nobody noticed (myself included - I utterly forgot about it for about four episodes, and then, after four episodes of making Trigger crazy, I looked at it and went "whoa!"). Namely - Trigger is married. You can find that out in his deathcomm. Now, how on Earth does that work? How does that fit in with his backstory, and with his general craziness? I have no idea...
 
Sorry, I didn't recall too much of the background fiction. I just thought he happened to be an exceptionally good militia pilot. I suppose it's more reasonable that he did have formal pilot training as a Confed recruit before becoming a milita pilot, though.

As for Trigger being married, I think that's really nice. In all seriousness. That a lady can find something special even in someone as bizarre and not-quite-sane as Trigger so much as to marry him. Can you quote what Trigger says as his death line, please?

Quarto, I only found this because I was going through the comm files a few months ago, I figured you never used it because it didn't fit Trigger's backstory, and of course because he didn't die. :D

If you look through the Standoff sound files (or even better, the script files within the LANGUAGE folder somewhere in the unzipped TRE) you'll see that all plot-critical characters have death comms, obviously mostly unused. Even Sparrow has one, as do Squealer and Stingray. They're awesome to use in DIY Standoff missions because you can make them as mortal as anybody else, and sometimes hear these unused lines.

Quarto, would it be ok by you guys if I were to upload some of the unheard soundfiles for others to listen to? It'd take me a day or two to extract and order them all :)
 
It's a simple matter to extract the files, I just don't have the time to rummage through them right now.

We discussed before why everyone has all lines recorded, even if they're never used. Too, if you were flagged a traitor in Prophecy and killed otherwise-invinvible pilots, their death lines often got used. I imagine the same might be true for Standoff.

Certainly, if you want - though I don't think there's really that much interest :p.
