CIC RSI Organization Turns One! (January 22, 2015)

Dundradal

Frog Blast the Vent Core!
It's hard to believe but it was exactly one year ago that we launched the Wing Commander CIC group over at Roberts Space Industries. We haven't organized any meet-ups for the organization yet, but now might be a good time to do so! The recent release of Arena Commander 1.0 has added a number of new features, including a friends system that makes organizing matches easier. Be sure to check out the brand new AC trailer below.

The continued financial support being given to the project is very impressive. They are roughly a quarter million dollars away from hitting $70 million! This money is being put to use in a number of areas which you can read about in the latest monthly report.

If you haven't joined the CIC organization, what are you waiting for? We're going to need every good pilot we have to stop the Kilra...err Vanduul hordes!

Hey, out of curiosity, can anybody link me to a page with the minimum system requirements for Arena Commander? I'm doing some upgrades next week; I suspect I'm still going to be well short of the mark (by upgrades, I mean upping the memory to 4GB and maybe giving that DDR3 graphics card I bought last year another shot) but I figured there'd be no harm in asking.

I think that 4 GB is the minimum viable amount of RAM, but a DDR3 video card should work as long as you have any kind of Core i3/i5 processor (or the equivalent from some other manufacturer).

1.0.1 (Which should be out any time now) adds some friend matchmaking ability as well.. I wouldn't mind making a run on some of my CIC co-conspirators :D

the biggest things are making sure you have a 64 bit os, a directx 11 video card and a whole ton of hard drive space. you may not get great performance, but it'll probably run

My PC is not the newest
i5 2500k from early 2011 - Hell 4 years old Oo
8 GB RAM
Win 8.1
only the GPU is new - Geforce GTX 970 with 4 GB

AC runs very smooth at 1080p with highest Settings 50-60 FPS - But when the PU Comes out with a lot more ships in a instance (60 or 80) then I need new CPU/GPU.

I've had some luck making the Hangar work in the past but I just can't get it to be stable long enough to try out the new AC version.

Whereas the hangar was a slide show at some points the flight module was very playable. If I ever get loaded in again with the current version you can be sure I'll give a shout out in #wingnut.

The stats that matter on this aged rig:
OS: Win 7 x64 Pro
CPU: AMD Phenom 9950 B.E. OC'd to 3ghz
RAM: 4 GB DDR2 (yes, 2)
Vid: NVDIA 560 Ti, 1 GB VRAM (running AC at 1080p native)
Logitech 3D Pro stick (temporary)

One major tip is switch to SSD, helps a ton for loading speeds and asset rendering. I'm woefully still using mechanical HDD. My system is so slow it is actually throttling my video card.

Minimum RAM is said to be 8 GB. At 4 I get a LOT of pagefile activity. On HDD's it can be an atrocious bottleneck. I put up with it for now, but you'll definitely want to build better than mine.

I personally use superspeed's supercache to speed up my "disk access time". I have a UPS in line so I am able to use the read/write functionality. I'm still on a LGA 1366 platform (i7 965), so my motherboard doesn't have an option like this built in. I run mechanical hdd's (in raid 0), so that helps a little as well. If you have access to the program, or your motherboard supports ram caching, I would highly recommend it for an asset heavy program like AC

I'm actually not sure what kind of processor I have installed at the moment. 2.9 GHz Dual core; I know that much. I'm also not sure the video card I've got will work - the motherboard uses DDR2 memory, the card uses DDR3. I've been told that doesn't make a difference - the card will use what the card has - but I'm not sure that I wasn't being teased when I was told that. And damn me if I've forgotten what kind of card it was...

Your video card and processor have two separate ram controllers. My video card uses gddr5 and my processor supports ddr3. They were correct when they told you that. It's only in very specific circumstances that the system memory comes into play (APU's and integrated graphics, when your gpu does not have dedicated memory).

Alright then. Sounds like I need to remember what I've got and check back in with y'all once I have the specs...

If you are using a Windows PC then all you need to do to find the information is look in your System Properties menu. Your exact GPU will be in Device Manager and Display Properties.

My apologies if you already know this information. :D

Here's my updated (but still well-obsolete) specs:
Gigabyte M68M-S2P w/ AMD Athlon II 2.9 GHz Dual Core
4 GB RAM (Kingston 2 X 2 GB - KVR800D2N6/2G - actually WORKED this time, dammit...)
GeForce GT 620 GC Graphic Card 2 GB DDR3 - that is, it would be this if I could get the damn thing working; it's not for some reason. Leaves me with the onboard chip in the meantime...an NVidia nForce 7065 / 630a equivalent.

So, what are the odds of me being able to join y'all in the Verse with that setup? Anybody got any ideas why the video card might not be working?

The ram might be a bit light, and the video card is almost certainly the weak link. I can't tell for sure but it looks to me at a glance that that card is not DX11 compatible which means that even with enough ram and an OK CPU you still wouldn't be able to run the game.

No, the GT 620 is DX11 compatible; at the moment the stupid thing isn't working, though. Getting a code 35 for the PCI-to-PCI bridge, the apparent fix for which is to re-flash the box's BIOS. There is a newer BIOS version available so I'm hoping that will do the trick.

The 630a though......if I get stuck with that I'm out; I'm well aware of that little factoid.

Heh, you have the exact same system as me apart from my CPU is an i7-870. Shame about NVIDIA's announcement this week regarding our GTX 970 eh? Apparently the card never quite uses all of the 4GB VRAM.

Just out of curiosity, what speed do you run that processor at? So far, I've managed a 4.2ghz overclock but if it weren't for the fact I have a Noctua NH-D14 cooler, it would get crazy hot. Have managed to get the idle temp down to 25° now! Only reason I ask is I looked at both the 2500k and 2600k a few years ago.

I really don't care about the 3,5GB on the 970. It's still the best GPU for its Money. Fast, silent - and when games requiere a 4GB GPU I have already a 1170 or 1270 with then 8 GB RAM :D
My CPU runs at 4,5 ghz with a BeQuit Dark Rock Pro 2 cooler.

And to the ships:
Have you download this?
https://forums.robertsspaceindustri...0/oculus-rift-compatible-ship-scale-viewer/p1
Its in Unity. You can look at all ships Hangar ready or in the Holo view. I take several hours in it to imagine where the turrets on my 890J are or Overall - how big it is at only 123m Oo The Snubfighter inside is a error - too big. It is about 22m - Hornet size. But it is only a 10m or so fighter. Thats why 2 are in the Hangar of the 890.

And look at this. He scaled the Idris already at 238m (correct it in the YouTube comments) But.. WOW! The first Thing we should do as a Orga is to get one asap Ingame!

And we are not at the size of the Javelin (Idris + Carrack in lengh) This Combo three times for the Pegasus escort carrier

It is the TCS Victory in SC. But from the lengh much more the TCS Concordia :D
