Broadswords and WC3

Madman

Vice Admiral
In the CIC database look at the p1 boradsword and the wc2 broadsword, the ships are massivley different, different loadout, top speed, all sorts of stuff

in wc3, i the first movie on the bar level, hobbes has teleported tothat level while you were in the lift, and cobra walks off to the left yet is then in the room on the right.

Not to mention that a place where there's no need for much military presence (like in Gemini sector), wouldn't require Confed to send its top of the line ships, but rather downgraded versions of current ships, or even some older stuff that's been retired from the front lines.

Which should have made it ripe for a Kilrathi offensive...

I've always been irritated by how the Rapier made from WC1 to WC2, yet none of the WC2 ships survived the short time span to WC3. I understand that back then there probably wasn't enough polygons to support WC2 ships, but still...

thats a good point the morningstar a prototype apparently was scrapped mid-war, yeah very likely, and the sabre was and still is a very effective ship, but then some ships from armada didnt make it to WC3 the experimental Wraith for example (experimental in academy) and that was a brilliant ship, most peoples fighter by choice i would suspect

Wedge: The Kilrathi haven't got much military presence on the other side of the border in Gemini. Look at the map - it's even more of a backwater to them than it is to us. To assemble enough forces for a full-scale attack in that area would probably require logistical support from most of the Kilrathi Fleet's transports. A smaller invasion force could have worked, but Confed pre-empted it by opening Gemini to settlement and fortifying the border.

Ther’s no need to mount an offensive on a backwater quadrant with nothing valuable. If the Kilrathi had won the war, then would be the time to pick off what’s left of the colonies.

Sabres, Broadswords, Rapiers and other ships from WC2 are still present at the WC3 time…

Interesting that so many Kilrathi coud get through. Yeah, I realise those Kilrathi are privateers as well, but still...

Maybe because we were losing the war, Wedge :). I'm surprised that Gemini had as many Paradigms as it did. Or maybe there were only three or four, and we just kept running into them all over the place?

where were the sabres etc in wc3, and still the morningstar was scrapped. as regards the wraith, hands up who adored it, fast, hard, good missiles, it was unbeatable.

Madman There aren’t any Sabres in WC3, no one said that there were…

The Morningstar was a problematic fighters since it’s development, and it could have been scraped. Note that there are much more fighters in the universe than just the ones we see in the games or novels, so it’s possible that Morningstars were still used after SM2.

Johann, so basicly you’d want to be flying the Rapier in Prophecy, is that it?:)

Fighters change because times change. WC2 is around ten years after WC1, it’s obvious that newer and better fighters will be developed in between. WC3 is few years after WC2, and it has few new fighters (Excal, T-bolt) but the Arrow, Hellcat and Longbow have already been present in the WCU. WC4 is only 2 years after WC3 and it’s a peace time fleet, so we don’t see much changes in the ships you can fly.

No earthworm, I don't know if I'm the only guy who says this but I hate the Rapier with all my heart. Never has there been such a mutual feeling of hate between me and my ship, though I'd love to fly a Sabre in Prophecy, no doubting that, sure wouldn't mind if it was a bit souped up though

I used the Rapier only as an example. The point is that a fighter that was state of the are 10 years ago is most likely outclassed by now (which actually was the case with the Rapier, and later the Excals and T-bolts).

There is a certain limit for upgrading ships. I doubt a Sabre would be able to fight against Prophecy ships with any kind of sucess, even if it had been upgraded.

Well, speaking of fighters still being in service outside of what we see in the games, it was nice to see this implemented in SO. That is, using the more 'regular' fighters - Excaliburs and Thunderbolts - to defend stationary bases and such.
