Branch of Service...

Dralthi5

Spaceman
Okay, I was watching the movie last night, and now I have a question: We all know our pilots in the game are in the Space Force, but what exact branch of service are they in in the movie? I mean, Bellegarde called Blair and Maniac First Lieutenants, a Space Force Rank, but Blair identifies himself as Lieutenant J.G., a Naval rank, and then, unless I'm mistaken and my closed captions are on the fritz, Maniac calls Forbes a Marine just before she crashes her Rapier into the Claw's deck. What's the deal there?

Well, if there's anything like that in the movie than it bust be a mistake. Blair, Maniac and the rest of our favorite pilots are in space forces.

Yeah, see, that's what I logically thought, but: " Keep that nose up, Marine." Must be a mistake.

I'll try to check that part later. Though I don't recal hearing something like that, and I must have seen the movie at least 8 times.

I hadn't noticed either until I watched it on closed captions, but it may just be my CC going nutso. Once it came up with a message saying, " I'm leaving," when it wasn't even turned on...

Dralthi, you're right, he does say *marine*. I just checked in captions and that is definetly what he said. However, he could mean it as *Pull up, soldier!*, or something else. Anyhow, I wouldn't worry about that, it's not realy important.

It's kinda hard for me to believe that's what he meant, but I don't know the character in question.

The fact is Marines can fly fighters, the Dralthi you escort in Operation Thor's Hammer is piloted by a Marine, for instance. At present day, Marines have a very substancial air division.

There may be similarities in the WCU. As for the movie, there are differences in most things when compared to the games.

What else does this character do?

A wingmen is essential; they give the enemy something else to shoot at.

Uh... Marines are generally supposed to be very tough. That's why he calls her a Marine. Must you people take everything so literally?

Uh...which could be why I wanted to know about the character. Not knowing anything about the character might make a difference. Why can't I take things literally? So many other people do.

I've never heard anyone call someone tough by calling them a Marine but I guess things change in a few centuries.

How's that UN paper comming Quarto?

Well, marine's aren't just muscle men and snake-eaters. Remember in Independence Day, the guy Will Smith played (his name escapes me right now) is a marine, and he's a hell of a pilot. Just because it's a certain branch of the military doesn't mean they don't do different things. We have Air Force pilots who are in the CIA, jsut for their service record. We have Navy guys who are SEALs, the elite snake-eaters of the country, and alot of helicopter pilots are marines too. Think of the Space Forces as a more glorified version of the fighters out there on those carriers in the ocean. Mainly just a branch of the Navy. Don't say they're not either, because the Navy can live without pilots, (though I wouldn't want to

), but pilots can't be in the middle of the ocean without the navy. (well, not without flying that is, unless they crash.....

)

Just some more of my ramblings. Feel free to flame and contridict me at will (unless other wise stated. Void where prohibited. Don't ingest with alcohol. Do not.....fly without a wingman

I might be right, I might be wrong, but then again, I just might not care either. Got a problem with that?--Me.

I wrote up 2200 words in 3.5 hours yesterday, since I had to give a presentation on it today.

Now I just have to put in a whole lot of references, a bibliography, and correct some mistakes. It looks like I might have some spare time in the foreseeable future.

At least some of it, though probably not all at once.

What do you want first? WC2-SO2, or WC1-SM2?

Yes, considering I've never heard anyone use the word Marine in that context.

Earthworm: I'm not worrying about, per se, but it was just a tad confusing, that's all.

Knight: I think we all realize that.

Oh, by the way, that character's name was Captain Steven Hiller.
