Bengal-class strike carrier?

I definitly love this carrier class from Wing Commander 1. I have seen that it is in the Standoff database but I haven't seen any mission where it actually appears. Could you add at least a simulator mission where a Bengal carrier has a main role? (like a escort or capital ship atack mission)

By the way, keep with your marvelous work with Standoff, I just love the game and it's one more of my Wing Commander collection, maybe after it is done you should release a retail edition with box and guide! :p

I believe the Bengals were out of commission by the time Standoff starts, so the only real way to include it is in a simulation or a flashback mission.

...a flashback mission...how come I've never seen one of those?

We don't have any active Bengals in the campaign missions because there were no Bengals listed among the "active carriers" in Fleet Action (the novel our storyline is based on). However, a drydocked Bengal will make an appearance in Ep 5. I'm not sure why we didn't make proper use of that model in our Sim missions, though. At any rate, it's probably too late to change that now.

We plan to offer a CD/DVD cover for download with the release of Ep 5.... and Dundradal, who is one of our testers, is working on a guide. His guide will probably take quite a while to be finished, but I wouldn't want to release it together with Ep 5 anyway. Let everyone try to figure the game out for a while before we give out all our secrets.

That's what I mean. None were show as active, so I'm guessing they were out. But of course if Bradshaw has a flashback or something in black and white ((like the intro to Ep. 1)), the Bengal could be shown.

Oh great...way to blow the secret Eder...now I HAVE to finish it sometime this century :D

To be honest it's actually fairly well along. The last few months I was unemployed so I spent a good amount of time working on it. It just needs some graphics, a lot of fact checking, and some clean up, oh and the section of Ep5 :D

I'm sure Eder will be happy now that people will stop asking him to make the guide :D

I'm guessing they were taken offline because of the Armistice? Wouldn't they have brought them back online after the Battle?

Hey what about our Ranger/Yorktown which ever it really is. Were they in service at this point? Or was the victory a case of lack off supplies that forced them to bring the light carriers out of mothballs.

Daring? I took on the project didn't I? :D

~~~ bravo dundradal
As Eder and Quarto have said numerous times...there are already too many ships in Standoff...what would really be added by having a Yorktown class in one mission hanging around? Especially when there is really very little in FA to tell you where they were. We only know there are several carriers in the Lunar drydocks, we have no idea how many are at Confed HQ, or at say the Trojan IV shipyards and we don't even know which ones are at Luna, only that they are there.
I think they've found the best balance they could while also trying to get as many ships in as possible.
Well I never did say I wanted one added in, I never particularly cared for that class, just was wondering a bit about the history, I would agree that there are more ships in this game then in any of the other WC pretty much.
To answer your question...we don't really know. We have a very limited amount of information about the Yorktown-Class. We only have the small snippets given in WC3, which is extremely limited at that.
I see. Well perhaps that is for the best.
... And there's no way in hell that I would try to pass off the same model as being two different designs in my game. :p
Heh, I know enough to know that you'd tweek the design enough that it would be able to pass as a legitimate different class, somewhat like you did with the Concordia model with the partially exposed flight deck and the altered conning tower... would be sort of interesting, but I'd personally rather you didn't anyway.
For those who are really eager to see the Bengal-class strike carrier in action, you can just fire up Unknown Enemy. It's still a great game even though it's not as current or polished as Standoff.
Has there been any progress on the new Standoff episode? A mission or two completed or something like that?
