autotracking

I don't know how the autotracking code works, so I don't know if this is easy to do or not: Would it be possible to turn autotracking on and off in flight? Taking long-range shots becomes rather useless when your guns spray everywhere but straight ahead.

Autotracking first appeared in WC3 but never in the games before, so i would simply cut it off in the remake and use it for wcu.

The question deals not with timelines or universe continuity, but rather with gameplay. In a nutshell, autotracking kicks ass 90% of the time and is undesirable the other 10%. During that 10%, I want to be able to turn it off.

here's an easy way to turn it off for now...
(though I might conjour up a better way if I can think of it)
target the sun, with the map... (or target a planet or something you won't face)
hit alt-1 to save it
target your attackable unit...hit alt-2 to save that
fire at it...when you want autotracking off hit cntrl-1
then when you want it back hit cntrl-2
