Are you kidding me!!?

Spaceman
I just finished taking out the Steltek drone with my 'Boosted StelGun' and was feeling pretty cocky, so I decided I pop some retros in high number with high bounty (thought I take on a Retro capship with 8 escorts to start out). On my way to J900 from Perry, I stopped at XXN-1927 to make sure I had enough jump fuel to make it there (sometimes a jump fuel bug in the game will use twice or rarely three times as much fuel as it should and I didn't want to get stranded again in 119CE with my date with the Retros pending). When I landed on XXN-1927 the 'Robot TinMan' informed me I had just gotten my beautiful Stelgun stolen. I couldn't believe it!! I was just starting out to run wild over Gemini Sector with my stelgun, and "poof" it's gone. No one told me anything about Righteous Fire being included in this Privateer Reloaded/Redux/Remastered game, and all this for the same low price of $0.00. I flew to Oxford, and there was Masterson, ready to help me again if I run some missions in the sector to decrease the paranoid ways of some secret guy who knows something about my gun. It was 1990's deja'-vous all over again. I bet have a good idea where to find Murphy.

Is the entire RF campaign here, or is it just the beginning missions and scenario? Tell me I'm not dreaming! I'm having so much fun running Privateer in high-res on a modern machine.

I went to Perry to hopefully upgrade my ship with some fusion cannons and a Level 4 reactor with Level 3 shield. That was a no go on all counts.

POSSIBLE SPOILER (don't read if you don't want to make RF too easy):In the Privateer Campaign, I discovered a way to get 4 stelguns, but they drain so much power, it was a waste. Is this an Easter egg, or a bug? The friendly Stelteks only boost one gun, anyway, so 4 guns is of little value. However, when I kept 2 stelguns, the gun that got stolen from me on XXN-1927 was the unboosted energy-hog stelgun, so I have a boosted stelgun to start RF. Look out you Retro freaks and you Kilrathi collaborators. Where's that Jones guy!!

Thanks, thanks, thanks for the game.

how did you get 4 steltek guns? private message me please... thanks :)
We only know of a way to get a single steltek gun.

Umm. . .if you have a VERY light touch on the keys you MIGHT be double or triple touching the j key. If you press hard and firm ONCE you don't see the "double/triple bug" rearing its ugly head.

If you press J more than once in the jump sphere, you get hit for fuel more than once.

hellcatv: I tried to send E-mail you about multicloning of the stelgun, but my mail service indicates the e-mail address "privater *atsign gmail.com" is not a valid format. Is this address "privater@gmail.com" or maybe "privater*@gmail.com? Let me know and I'll get you the info and a save file. Sorry if I seem dense on interpretation of your address. You can e-mail me at hoovsbin@mail.com and I'll reply direct with the information.

Wendy: When I get into a jumpnode, I have a heavy finger, and frequently hit "j" multiple times to ensure I engage the jumpdrive. I'll let up a little on the power-digit.

Thanks.

I hid the e-mail address to prevent spam
I never got your e-mail how to get the steltek cloning

but I'll make it simple for you for now...and edit it away soon so google doesn't pick it up

the e-mail address is privater@gmail.com

you can just post the cheat here if you can't get me the e-mail...

If you somehow can't reach me by e-mail, post the cheat to get 4 stelteks here...and I'll edit it away when I read it (and hopefully correct the problem)
thanks in advance :)

Wow.. we have a winner. I wondered if it would be too obscure for anyone to ever stumble into.

We really ought to do something about people pressing 'j' more than once. It isn't an issue in Vegastrike, but when it eats limited jump fuel it is a bit of a problem.

About your bug...the e-mail you described how to get 4 stelteks in--I couldn't make it work, even with vanilla 009b...though I fixed one exploit that could have happened

I can get it to work virtually everytime. Last night I was goofing around with this and I was able to get 2 boosted steltek guns for the first time. Talk about fire-power. I took a 20 ship bounty mission and only lost some armor in the early fighting, when every ship was pounding me. If it is something unique to my system and not a global problem with the code, shouldn't be a problem. I still only hear music from my left speaker, but sound effects from both, so there is something not quite right. I am running this game in Win98SE, if perhaps that matters.

This game also does have another way to 'cheat' with the RF upgrades being made available to you in the Privateer 1 campaign. The original Privateer game from Origin had a functionally similar cheat (changing the RF game save extension from xxx.prs to xxx.priv as I recall), so you truly are keeping this like the original.

If you're interested in anymore info on this, hellcatv, e-mail me and I can send you a save file with two boosted stelguns, and tell you what I know about this. Interesting you can't get it to work on your system. Other than making the game too easy, it doesn't really have any special downside. It would be similar to have a God mode and just being able to go out and blow something up with impunity. I am playing the RF campaign now, and got rid of all the stelguns, so I can truly enjoy the gaming experience as it was meant to be played, including those close calls and even the rare fiery death. I am presently running cargo\bounty missions to get enough credits to buy those four fusion cannons before I go to see Tayla, Murphy, and Goodin.

excellent :) I eagerly await your reports :)

If you want to be evil (and help me out some) you can do more than 1 fixer at once...
for instance a masterson mission takes you to the place where murphy is...then you can fly the murphy mission and take a tayla mission...then you can go back to goodin...then back to masterson... mixing it up a bit like that stresses the campaign system to the max--and we can more easily diagnose problems :)
