Behind the Music: Eddie Rickenharp (November 11, 2025)

It's almost too easy to see a connection to Rick Rickenharp, a former rock star popular for minimonos, in John Shirley's "Eclipse" series... (https://john-shirley.com/books/A_Song_Called_Youth.html)

The Real Transports of Wing Commander II (June 15, 2025)

Depth and backstory to these games never ceases to amaze me, after all these years. Speaking of years: There's a coincidence that brings me here. Not only did my Wing Commander journey start in the deep South in the 90s, I also had a friend there, who was a lot into history. And stories. And...

Wing Commander Movie Night: The Last Starfighter (March 24, 2025)

Thanks @kingmakeress for sending me on that tangent - urban legends are always worth it. Everyone else, have fun with the movie!

Two Preview Sample Tracks Released to Kickstarter Album Backers (September 1, 2024)

Finally I got around to download these two samples - and for all the roughness, they're gorgeous. Please don't overproduce, that vibrancy and slight off-balance of the live orchestra is just what makes it feel real.

Star Trek Logo Reimagined with Wing Commander Vibes (September 2, 2024)

That's about the first time I've seen anybody identify the font used for the WC logo. I always assumed it was just a graphical design without a full typeset behind it. Or probably I'm just lazy. Really a nice find - and there's some history to it, too...

Orchestra Recording a Huge Success! (August 19, 2024)

Darnit, I missed the live stream. Was anybody there? Looks like the guys had a lot of fun though.

The Torturous Wing Commander Poetry Department (April 19, 2024)

As a once-upon-a-time-English-major I thoroughly enjoyed that. It could have been a series of 20 articles, but thrown all together, it shows the depth and reach in Wing Commander - and the huge effort of research.

Learning About the Bray Twins’ Real Life Counterparts (March 18, 2024)

Brilliance in obscurity. And not the kind that comes in crates.

    Wing Commander at 25 (March 12, 2024)

Firstly, I wanted to thank Ben for the heartfelt post - your dedication, passion, perseverance and love for Wing Commander has kept the spark alive in many fans, and I'm sure you had(and have) an influence on the industry. For most of us, WC would have been a fondly remembered fad from our...

Confusing Carrier Confirmed! (December 8, 2022)

Great story, Andreboll 👍 I think I had a Nimitz aerial shot in my boy's room too, but just magazine-page sized (and a F-14 Tomcat poster, and a Tomcat model - I was a lot into the "Final Countdown" movie). @LOAF: Love to see what you got!

Exploring a Cockpit Artpiece Mystery (November 12, 2023)

A bit late to the party - but the way it folds and the way the screen curves makes it look like the inside of a helmet-like device. Like a face mask / light shield for the Nintendo Virtual Boy?

Get a Good Look at the Privateer Equipment (December 12, 2023)

So what is the story behind frowny face? It might have been reported already, but I might have missed it..

    The silliest callsign

I just realized that I started this almost two decades ago - and still visiting the site at least once a week. Time flies, like my cringeworthy nick 'supafly' that started all this. Nice to see it can be picked up almost seamlessly... My callsign has been "Ash" for years now, and "Jon" if a...

    Exploring Lt. Anderson’s Backstory (June 10, 2023)

I like how these historical posts tend to go off on a tangent... Anderson appearing in the VDU was for me a cue to relax after an intense mission, a sense of being back in the territory of reason. He might not be as memorable as Radio Rollins, but professionally, he did a better job.

Pining for the Quine (March 30, 2023)

Privateer is still (and shamefully) my favorite game in the franchise. Thx for giving it the attention, and still discovering new stuff.
