Gato 6 to Perform at SXSW (October 25, 2012)

Speaking of Wing Commander music - have you guys listened to this Blake Robinson version of the original theme yet? Was just released.

    Console Gaming 101

LOAF's right. To expand on what he said, burn-in isn't really a problem for LCD's. LCD's do, however, experience image 'retention,' but it is a temporary ghosting that occurs from long-term static images (like the bars used for 4:3 aspect on a widescreen, if used too frequently.) Retention looks...

    Left 4 Dead?

Did a couple campaigns with LOAF and LeHah last night. Thanks for the fun, guys!

The Sum of Its Parts (December 15, 2008)

Whenever I see these sorts of posts it always makes me sad. Over the years, I collected my video game boxes; not entirely sure why. I'd use my favorite ones to decorate the top of my dresser as a kid, and amongst them were all the Wing Commander boxes in excellent condition. When I moved out...

Spore. Spore Never Changes. (December 8, 2008)

Spore wins props with me simply by featuring the M.U.L.E. theme in the trading screen.

    Burrows Gets a Facelift (December 2, 2008)

I think with a little less red and a little more yellow to the tone, some of the 'over-sharpening' of the features would be alleviated. And I agree, the original's eyes were more rectangular in aspect.

    Left 4 Dead?

Any WingNuts playing Left 4 Dead? I picked it up on the 360 and could not have predicted how addictively fun the game is. I've never had a cooperative play experience like it before. Hit me up if you've got it. We could get some games going.

Most anticipated video game of the fall?

Chiming in to say that Left 4 Dead is a LOT of fun, especially versus/co-op.

My Xbox got the Red Ring of Death...

That's the official word. My friend's 360 - which he got at launch - got the Red Ring 2 1/2 years ago. The same 360 got it again four weeks ago; well out of range of the 1 years 'refurbish' warranty. Yet, they told him just to send it in, free of charge. Seems like so long as it's the red-ring -...

    can i do this

What Shaggy said. You'd need to create a new movie file in order to add in the audio. You can record audio and then convert it to an MP3 using a freeware WAV to MP3 converter. I've recorded cassette tapes in the past using a male-to-male 1/8" audio jack and an old stereo's headphone jack...

    WC asteroids

I think, practically speaking, that asteroids (in WC3 and 4) were probably a technical obstacle. Rendering all those rocks on-screen at the necessary rate would have been a little much for hardware to handle at the time. Lord knows, they didn't run all that smoothly for me as they were.

Most anticipated video game of the fall?

Heh, true enough, but I meant how similar the Enclave goals are to that of the Black Lance.

Most anticipated video game of the fall?

Well, I guess I was right about Beast Rider. Just realized, though, that Malcolm McDowell is in Fallout 3 as the president of the Enclave. Fitting character for the guy who played Tolwyn, hm? ;)

Making the Games: Confederation Fighter (October 15, 2008)

'Star Trekky' in that everything is very smooth and clean and shiny, like the interior of the Midway. I understand the rationale behind it - building something outside of wartime gives you time to be aesthetic about it - but I preferred the previous games' atmospheres.

Making the Games: Confederation Fighter (October 15, 2008)

It boils down to preference in this case. I personally wasn't excited about the art direction in WCP; it took a Star Trek 'super-clean' approach which felt less utilitarian. I like gritty and greasy. StarLancer had that.

Making the Games: Confederation Fighter (October 15, 2008)

I remember finding these years ago on Feng Zhu's site. He began in films, but joined Origin specifically to work on Wing Commander before going to GT Interactive. And I agree with those who feel the ships were too 'anime'. I always enjoyed WC's decidedly 'western' art direction, even if the...

    Worst game ever played?

It's not surprising that 90% of the older games I come back to are Origin titles. If not, the remaining 8% are by ex-Origin guys (like Deus Ex.) As for Titan Quest, I have no trouble running it, and my machine isn't a monster by any means. I enjoy it, despite its sterile story presentation.

    Worst game ever played?

Batman: Dark Tomorrow for the XBox. Inexcusably bad. Another more modern title was Warhammer 40k: Fire Warrior. I played about 10 minutes of it and then uninstalled it.

Most anticipated video game of the fall?

Golden Axe: Beast Rider looks like it could be cool, but SEGA's track record with platform slashers isn't that promising. I'm looking at you, Viking.
