The Dawn of the Wing commander revival, or a false start?

I suggest un-setting all set Djinn, then summon, summon, summon away on the sucker. Always works for me. And one should most certainly check out IGN's new Golden Sun 2 movies... the blow GS1 out of the water!

    WingCommander-Simulator ? ?

One needs to not expect too much from the WC movie is all. Was it great film? Was it well written? Did it have an emotional impact? No, certainly none of these are true of the WC Movie. But as far as Sci-Fi flicks that involve blowing things up? It rocks. It has cool shiny things, funny looking...

    WingCommander-Simulator ? ?

How could anyone-- anyone-- expect more from FMV in a video game than what was achieved in the WC games? Directorial mistakes? Script problems? Bad Acting? Who cares?! It's a video game. It has an interesting story. Semi-interesting characters. The ocassional hot chick. Don't complain. Sheesh.

The Dawn of the Wing commander revival, or a false start?

::Laughs and shakes head in disbelief:: Man! Them're fightin' words! Heehee. Nafé: There's no reason to believe anything about this game. That is to say, not that it's good, not that it's bad, not that's a new WC revival, not that it's a false start. While I'm a hardcore GB fan, and have been...

The Dawn of the Wing commander revival, or a false start?

Sorry about that. Text tends to lead to certain ambiguities regarding what one's trying to say, what with an utter lack of inflection. No, smilies do not compensate. I think I can answer your question regarding the possible price of a backlit GBA. Backlit LCD screens vary in price and cost...

The Dawn of the Wing commander revival, or a false start?

Don't be fooled. The afterburner is not a backlight, it's a light that's placed betwixt the screen and the plastic screen protector. I've now seen one with brightness control attached, and mantain my original belief that any white-LED based light-- be it a "Worm Light" external light or an...

    Prophecy on GBA

Re: Re: Re: Re: As seems to be my custom, I whole-heartedly disagree. What are you talking about? The GBA is not only the successor to the most popular console of all time, it's also the only game in town when it comes to handheld game consoles in the US. Still, don't take my word for it...

The Dawn of the Wing commander revival, or a false start?

Wow... What do you do for a living? You seem to be loaded, what with your play-all-WC games set-up, your GB, your GBA-TV connector... Do you own any next-gen consoles? I'm assuming you must have a pretty nice, PC, too.

The Dawn of the Wing commander revival, or a false start?

I think I just might be a really picky bastard. I have a friend who installed the after-burner, and the super-white LED lights give it a funny blueish look. I prefer a nice incandescant lamp, it doesn't wash things out too much. I also have owned lots of backlit portables(Turbo-Express, Game...

    Prophecy on GBA

Re: Re: As seems to be my custom, I whole-heartedly disagree. Problem is, the really big ones are so expensive they aren't being manufactured yet. The 256 megabit(32MB) carts are supposed to be the biggest the GBA can handle, but there's not a single one in existence, so developers can't...

    Prophecy on GBA

Re: Re: As seems to be my custom, I whole-heartedly disagree. Yes, the hardware redraws every frame of a 3D scene. But with 2D art, you need an actual piece of artwork for every frame drawn, while for 3D scenes, you only need the calculations for camera angle, light map, etc. All of which...

The Dawn of the Wing commander revival, or a false start?

It's my personal opinion that the afterburner is an awful, awful investment. It washes out the colors. Get a worm light, or a lamp-- don't permanently screw up your GBA with an awful light;)

    Prophecy on GBA

As seems to be my custom, I whole-heartedly disagree. 2D games with fully animated sprites will have more graphical assets than full 3D games due to the fact that when you animate a sprite, you actualy draw it over again, duplicating the image thirty frames for every second. On the other...

    Prophecy on GBA

Indeed, it would. I think full-talking is a possibility, too. Remember, the only full-talking RPG for SNES was only a 12 MB cart, and that was with many more graphical assests than this game will have, and waaay back in '96, when compression wasn't half so nice as it is now, and there's been a...

    Prophecy on GBA

Darn! I thought I was the first one to notice that! Whoa! Did LOAF have that update on the front page of WCNews before I put this thread up? Now I feel foolish. He beat me to it! Leave it to LOAF.

    Prophecy on GBA

Yes, three disks worth of 640x480 video. We're talking much smaller res videos with much higher compression. Remember, the GBA screen is about an 8th of a full computer screen. The video becomes super tiny therefor.

    Prophecy on GBA

I dunno. The GBA can handle FMV, and while 16 MB and larger cartridges are getting cheaper(32 MB aren't produced yet), compression is getting better and better. By the end of the SNES' life time, it had one full-talking game under it's belt-- the cart, which had impressive graphics, weighed in...

    Prophecy on GBA

No, no... I meant that the GBA was only designed with 2D in mind. That's what makes blueroses so impressive.

    Prophecy on GBA

Yes! I love that adapter(composite sucks, but the S-Video is quite good). However, anyone who's playing a game that uses any 3d will be dissapointed, what with those tiny texture resolutions being represented by HUGE TV pixels. For example, I love THPS3 on the GBA, the textures look so sweet...

    Prophecy on GBA

Especially on that exceptionally small screen... texture resolutions could be tiny and still be extremely effective since the screen res/size of the GBA is so very high/small:)
