MyJEMM doesn't do IPX tunneling like DOSbox does. There might be some way to get it working with some tunneling thing like Kali, but that's probably more effort than it's worth. DOSbox really is the best bet.

The Armada/Dosbox problem seems to be that while dosbox has built in network support and also built in "protected mode" support as required by many games, currently the two can not function at the same time. That's just a guess, but it's probably a pretty accurate one going by the error message...

I don't mind lack of plot in a FPS as long as there's enough to keep you occupied. Doom 3 was about the occasional monster with lots of nothing at all to build suspense. As plotless FPSes go, my favorite is Serious Sam if only for the scale of the battles.
