    Cloak Comparison

In comparing the Dragon and Arrow cloaks, I could still see the Dragon, but it did at least make it a bit harder to see them. I think even with the Arrow's advantage of totally disappearing, the Dragon could still be strategically better because of it's ability to destroy large capships.

Pilgrim Stars - a quick review Warning may contain spoilers

I'm about halfway through Pilgrim Stars. This is the last of the Wing Commander books that I have yet to read. My impression on it so far is pretty much the same as yours Saleem. I think the writer has a talent for making the combat scenes exciting, which is primarily what I enjoy about Wing...

What's your least favorite craft to dogfight with?

I'd still go with the WC4 cloaking Arrows, but I thought I'd post to second Ilanin's post. Without the missile threat, the WC3 Dralthi is likely the same clay pigeon type target drone that it's appearance suggests. On Nightmare however, they swarm you with missiles that are rarely effected by...

What's your least favorite craft to dogfight with?

WC4 cloaking Arrows. I remember the defending Melek mission in particular where I learned to dread those.

    New 747 Takes Off (February 8, 2010)

My Dad flew the 747 for quite a few years before switching to the 777. He enjoyed both, but definitely prefers the 777.

    WCPedia: Ship/Fighter Articles

I was looking at some of the ship entries and the ones I saw didn't have maximum afterburner velocity. They had the maximum speed without afterburners, but that statistic is much less relevent. In actual combat, you're pretty much constantly hitting the afterburners.

    My Compliments to the Chef!

I recently finished playing through the losing path of Episode 5-- What a blast! Very creative missions. I couldn't stop playing that path and spent several hours straight playing it.

Another thing that causes Standoff to not start is that it is often running invisibly in the background after a game ends and you exit to the desktop. You can pull up the task manager by pressing control-alt-delete, then click on the processes tab. You might see standoff.exe running. Click on...

I had some problems with the game not starting up after it crashed. I set it to Windows '98 compatability mode and that seemed to work. Hope that helps. In case you don't know how to set that, just right click on the Standoff icon, go to properties, click on the compatability mode.

How can I create my own campaigns/missions?

Are you guys going to release the Standoff source code? If most of you are done for awhile, it might be good to be generous. It'd be very fun for you all to play a fan made game that you didn't work and slave over. If you've been working with Standoff for hours a day for several years, there's...

How can I create my own campaigns/missions?

I think knowledge of Pascal programming would be helpful. You can find it by searching the forums for Pascal or programming or both. There's a website you can find that gives a tutorial on how to use it. I haven't tried it myself, but since no experienced guys are responding, I thought I'd...

    Episode 5 - Missions/Tactics *SPOILERS*

I suppose that's typical of creative groups. That happens a lot to music groups (Beatle's, The Police, and just about any other group that has a hard time getting back together for a reunion tour). Alrighty.. so continuing tactical ideas.. I found some of the suggestions interesting, such as...

Just encountered a very frustrating bug. After a hard fought battle, I returned to the Firekka After the successful mission, I landed, heard from the chief tech, and the game crashed. Edit: Replayed it and it didn't crash this time. Unfortunately there was an even more annoying crash. After...

All Angel Wanted (November 3, 2009)

That was very entertaining, nice job. I noticed the 'follow you' while they were holding hands and Angel was leading him to a spot. It might also be interesting to make one connecting scenes of WC3 Blair remembering Angel, and scenes of her in the Wing Commander movie. Of course they don't...

    Kilrathi Damage

It would make sense that it's mirrored if one view is looking out one end, and the other is after turning around to look out the other end.

    Episode 5 - Missions/Tactics *SPOILERS*

Wow, that's very surprising that it was the same model. I definitely think the textures and special effects were worth the effort. Thanks Alex and Eder.

I just noticed the clean lines, I liked the colors, and the glowing engines looked great too.

Got the joystick working, it wasn't Standoff's fault. While playing Ep. 5, the game was crashing after I died if I chose either the quit or restart options. Also, one of the flight wings of techs appear as Kilrathi icons when they respond. It wasn't a big deal though. Excellent game and...

    Episode 5 - Missions/Tactics *SPOILERS*

Got my joystick working (apart from the occassional drift where I have to stop, unplug, and replug), and Ep. 5 is great. Excellent work gentlemen.

    Slightly modified Standoff screenshots

I always thought a good explanation for the change in standard ships could be that many of the factories that made Rapiers and Sabres were destroyed when the Kilrathi pushed to Earth and destroyed many of Confed's biggest colonies. We hear a hint in Action Stations that some government officials...
