    Fav Sci Fi stuff

(I know I'm late, but I just found the thread.) An especially thought provoking film is Blade Runner. If you have not seen it, you owe it to yourself. It's a near-future dystopian noir film that examines the human condition, and disects the class system on an allegorical level. There's a lot...

    A question & then a proposal:

Anyway, abandoning a network TV rendition of Wing Commander and going for a web-distributed concept may be a more viable option. A lot of 'made for web' series have gotten pretty good in recent years. Granted, the groups who produce them vary greatly in their quality of funding, but I'd say...

    Which one is your favorite?

I think the trial sequence in WC4 - where everyone's testifying against Tolwyn - is the only game sequence in which I've gotten somewhat emotional. Of course, it coulda been due to the fact that I was 13 when I first played it, but still. It's far, far better than all the 13 year olds who...

    Which one is your favorite?

Late to the game, but it's been a while since I really scoured the forums. Would have to say the series, for my, goes in this order (Excluding spin-offs, such as Privateer): WC2, WC4, WC1, WC3, Prophecy

    A question & then a proposal:

I was initially impressed with the new BSG, until its facade fell away and unveilled the hipster soap-opera beneath. But that's just me. Coulda been worse, though. Coulda been Space 1999.

    WC:CD "Scimitar"

I think what's throwing me off is how close the cockpit is to the nose. The nose was more narrow, as opposed to rounded, and the cockpit was set back a little closer to the 'wing bridge'.

Come Back, Wing Commander (April 8, 2008)

A friend of mine - who's never had exposure to WC before, outside of the name - played Arena at my place on Sunday and found it quite enjoyable, so it's not just us. Some reviewers get to be reviewers because they're only able to be eloquently contrary.

Come Back, Wing Commander (April 8, 2008)

Wing Commander didn't really take a hit quality-wise after the acquisition. I think the Ultima series felt it more (from 8 onward).

Mule Be Home Soon (April 8, 2008)

I think the shortest term I've seen used for M.U.L.E. is 'economic strategy game'.

Mule Be Home Soon (April 8, 2008)

Still, M.U.L.E. is a perfect candidate for XBLA more than any other platform. It was born and bred for competitive multiplayer. I still fire it up on my Atari emulator from time to time to bankrupt some chumps on Kaillera.

Mule Be Home Soon (April 8, 2008)

Doh, and I read this article early this morning and decided against sending it in to you guys. Good thing someone decided to, I guess. I didn't think it'd be credible as RedLime, but I'm sure it's in the works for XBLA. Puzzle game, though? M.U.L.E. was actually the first multiplayer strategy...

Meeting on XBL for other games...

Hey, if you guys ever need another hand in Halo 3 CoOp - and I'm online - gimme an invite. I'd be up for that.

BREAKING NEWS: EA Announces... Something? (February 21, 2008)

Watch it be something like M.U.L.E. Which would still be infinitely awesome.

BREAKING NEWS: EA Announces... Something? (February 21, 2008)

True; actually, I believe Richard Garriott owns the rights to the characters. But they did mention "new direction." Never said it'd serve the fanbase of the series. Hopefully it is not Ultima, seeing as how EA steered IX into a ditch. I'm inclined to believe that it isn't, was just basing the...

BREAKING NEWS: EA Announces... Something? (February 21, 2008)

The mention of 'beloved fiction' steers my hopes and suspicians in the Wing Commander / Ultima direction.

Which WC games had the best visual style?

Maybe that has something to do with it. I played the games when they first came out (when they were state-of-the-art), and that was when the Wing Commander games were pushing the graphics envelope of the time. '97 was the year Prophecy was released, so I can imagine that - given every other game...

Which WC games had the best visual style?

Strange. I'm curious, Mjav; what year did you first play WC2? I recall being nothing but impressed by the graphics at the time.

    Bossman's callsign should have changed...

I lumped the two together in my statement. Technically, yes, it's part of the canon. I don't choose to ignore it when discussing canon-necessary problems, specifically - but my intention was to say, "That's the official line, but I think they could have done better." At any rate, Bossman is...
