Fighter pilots targeting objects going thousands of km/hr

Hey, my space distortion theory would neatly explain the Tiger's Claw being both 10,000 m and 10,000 km away. Why won't anyone accept my theory? :( *edit* Second possibility: the navigational computers in that particular type of fighter had an error in it. I think later games have fighters...

LotRs Return of the King... a british perspective *spoilers*

Was it just me, or did Aragorn's voice keep changing in the final movie? Whatever it was, I didn't like it. I think, perhaps, it was something to do with sounding one in Ranger-mode, and another way in King/speech-making mode. But maybe it's just my imagination... Movies vs. books...

New ingame shots of new models and textures

Eh, I was just pretending to overreact. :) My sense of humor relies perhaps too much on satire and sarcasm to translate well on the Internet...

    Who invented the airplane?

Yeah, but that assumes we accept the opinion of a bunch of Victorians who had never flown before. :) Presumably we could make a better set of standards now... in fact, there are probably still standards somewhere for what qualifies as a powered flight, in case you invent a new type of airplane...

    Anyone good with dumbfires?

The Saturn V was also used to lift Skylab into orbit, which was basically a converted third stage.

Ooops, or Maniac is a yutz.

Maybe they use smaller monitors in, I don't know, Myanmar, but in the US at least, most people have moved on to 19"+ monitors. LCDs are generally at 17"+, but those look about as big as a 19" (while not taking up so much space). I haven't really seen a big movement to monitors much larger than...

    (Something Like)Trivia

Landing craft (and a Ferret) loaded with atomic warheads. Interestingly, at the end of that chapter Thrakhath muses to himself why the humans didn't attack the Emperor's palace... seems like Forstchen was alluding to the future Behemoth/T-bomb strikes, and Thrakhath's obsession with attacking...

BattleTech is a bad game -- don't buy it

The basic deal with the BattleTech mech designs is that they originally licensed/stole/whatever some of their designs from the Macross series (I suppose to avoid the expense/hassle of coming up with their own spiffy designs). Eventually, this was deemed legally a no-no, and they had to recall...

    Carrier Landing Styles

Hrm, that does make a lot more sense. Of course, seeing is believing, so I guess I'll have to double check. :) Assuming the carrier isn't accelerating, "absolute" velocity doesn't have any meaning, as all velocities are relative to the reference frame... although you can still get "rammed up...

    Carrier Landing Styles

Which seems kinda odd, because I thought the Claw had side-launching tubes. Maybe it was making a turn?

    Carrier Landing Styles

You're delusional. ;) Actually, that's a correct description of the scene, except that the conveyor belt isn't the catapult... it just moves the ship from the hatch to the catapult. The EM catapult accelerates the ship to a few 100 kps, which would be hard to do with a moving carpet... The...

    Carrier Landing Styles

Maybe naval architects still aren't sure whether they prefer fly-off or catapult launches, and so each individual design is created by an egotist with his own idea of what the best system is, thus creating an apparent contradiction in design choices. (Incidentally, maybe the Concordia had the...

    Starvector and WC Games

I think they sell used and leftover WC products, so they can't easily restock. I'm surprised they'd still have anything left, as those games both went out of production a long time ago.

    Behemoth weapon versus Graviton weapon

So if the Sivar jumps another ship, it can use its huge gun to blast the other ship full of plasma?

LotRs Return of the King... a british perspective *spoilers*

Having now seen the movie, I don't agree that cutting out the scouring of the Shire was a bad idea. While I suppose the ending of the book, with its sort of "price of freedom" message (haha, I fit in a WC reference!) fits into Tolkien's grand scheme for the overall story, I think it would have...
