If we're talking ships to fear, I have to say the Hhriss from SM2. Although well armed, I never really had much fear of Jalthi, as they were slow and easy to get behind and blast. The Hhriss however was just such a tough nut to crack and well armed too.

While I understand the reservations of jamming in explainations to make things fit together, I would argue that coming up with (some times ridiculous) theories to explain how something fits with the established whole is pretty much how cosmology, quantum mechanics and such are pushed forward.

I get that, but that's what printed tabloids have done for years and it's not difficult to spot. The trouble is that people keep reading/clicking on links. It's kind of like people who phone/write in to regulators to complain about TV shows when all they need to do is skip to the next channel...

I don't think you have to be too concerned about cannon. The way I'd do this is simply to make sure I don't contradict cannon. For example, you could set your story on another carrier or installation that's involved in the same end engagement as in fleet action, but the story leading up to it...

Then what about the Pilgrim wars? Were they hundreds of years before the Kilrathi conflict?

This will most likely be the Pilgrim stuff. I know very little about it, but a search for that on the forums should throw up a bunch of stuff and then there is alwaysthe book - 'Pilgrim Stars'

Unhelpfully, I don't have an answer for you, but I do remember this particular thing (the seeminglt unknown cost of the Centurion) turning me off the game, big time, when I originally played it.

While this seems like a great idea, it is actually just the same thing. If the other EU nations agree to buy billions worth of greek products (lets stick with your terminology and call them widgets), it stands to reason that in the free market these widgets are not an excluslively Greek product...
