    StarCraft Remastered announced

If I could get Blizzard to pay for remasters of non-Blizzard properties, wcdx would be a lot further along... Thanks! We've all been putting a ton of work into it over the last few months in particular (and that certainly won't stop with the release), so it's great to see other people excited...

Wcdx - Kilrathi Saga for modern Windows

Glad to hear it! The Mac, specifically, is largely my work; I started at Blizzard nearly five years ago on the Mac team, and I spent about three months last year just getting the project to build and run on Mac using modern APIs. (The last time the game was available on Mac, it still targeted...

Wcdx - Kilrathi Saga for modern Windows

Thanks! I really do want to work on this some more, but my job has been keeping me very, very busy lately; it's incredibly difficult to find free time right now, and I don't even know if things will settle down after SC:R ships. We'll see...

    StarCraft Remastered announced

Trailer Mike Morhaime's announcement Official site Blizzard Entertainment announced StarCraft: Remastered yesterday at the I <3 StarCraft event in Seoul, South Korea -- which means I finally get to share what I've been working on with my fellow wingnuts! Working on this project has been an...

Wcdx - Kilrathi Saga for modern Windows

Thanks for the encouragement! I'll keep an eye out for opportunities to work on this; right now, I'm about to get on a plane to Seattle for the ISO C++ committee meeting in Issaquah, which will keep me busy for the next week, and of course holiday season is approaching... but I actually got...

Is WC Kilrathi Saga still desirable?

If you're trying out KS WC1, I recommend using my wcdx patch. KS was written when Windows 95 was still new, and newer operating systems don't usually handle it very well. I also did some work patching KS WC2, but that turned out to be a much larger project; I hope to get back to it some day...

    Wing commander t-shirt

The "Dralthi" is actually a Cylon Raider (Battlestar Galactica), and the "Raptor" is the Gunstar from The Last Starfighter. Not sure about the "Salthi," but I strongly doubt it's Wing Commander. Your last question mark is Moya from Farscape.

    Then this happened...

That's actually the exact era I'm most interested in seeing... if they do it right. To me, that means starting with the visual style of ST6 -- monster maroon uniforms and all -- and extrapolating from there, preferably with a strong bias towards realism. That little teaser is exactly what I...

Wcdx - Kilrathi Saga for modern Windows

Thanks, but I'm sorry to say I'm not actively working on any of this stuff at the moment; I was just recounting where I left off a few months back. Every time I think I'll get enough free time to pour some work into this, something else comes up. It's all good, though; part of the other stuff...

Wcdx - Kilrathi Saga for modern Windows

That wouldn't solve the problem; that would just make the scenes take forever. Think about it this way: Scene duration is equal to the number of frames divided by the frame rate; mathematically: d = (x frames) / (y frames/sec) The original game specified a number for x, but not for y (citation...

Wcdx - Kilrathi Saga for modern Windows

Well, GOG uses the original DOS versions, so issues from the KS version won't show up there.

Wcdx - Kilrathi Saga for modern Windows

Correct; I really want to continue this, but I have a lot of other things in flight. WC2 is also a significantly larger project than the earlier games. One interesting conundrum: Fixing cut scene frame rates. In KS WC2, the game will change the frame rate of a cut scene as it is playing...

Second Edition Of Orchestral Wing Commander Recordings In The Works! (April 2, 2016)

Even with the DVDs, the music isn't likely to be a separate track from the dialogue. There are some tricks you can do to try to isolate the music, but it's a difficult process and doesn't usually produce very good results. I'm not entirely sure what George did to edit together the WC4 intro...

Holy moly... this show might actually end up being good... Now I'm starting to get excited!

    Then this happened...

It seems to me that Abrams treated Star Wars with a lot more respect than he treated Star Trek. His overall approach to Star Wars, employing practical effects and taking a much more grounded approach to force powers and light saber battles than Lucas did in the prequels, served the film well...

[Help Please] Wing Commander 3 - Win95 Question

You're right, I was a little too categorical. Post-processing the image is certainly doable, and can even produce reasonable results, but it's not the same as turning on anti-aliasing in a graphics driver or actually increasing the resolution of the game.
