Wing Commander III Shows Age :(

I realize that I may very well be in the minority, but I rather PREFERED the MIDI of WCIII. With a good sound card and multiple speakers, the sound is much richer, and doens't suffer from the occasional crackle that the digital remakes of WCI and WCII do.

    WC3 Movie list

Excellent! I started doing this, but I guess I can devote my time to other things. Thanks...! Oh...you shoul dsend a mail to Mario Brito, who wrote the movie viewer, and let him know that you are doing this. He was quite interested when I e-mailed him.

    wishes wishes... prequel?

The most important event leading to the mass replacement in those two years was the Battle of Terra, where Confed lost the majority of its ships, of every class. Even barring that fact, it's not terribly unusual for large-scale replacements of this nature during wartime. Take WWII as an...

    What WC4 needed

Since highlights are exactly that...highlights. Rachel's hair in WCIII was almost entirely and quite evidently blonde. Perhaps you should fire up your copy of the game and look again....

    What WC4 needed

Erm...Rachel was blonde in WCIII as well. May have had some strawberry highlights, but definitely a blonde.

    What WC4 needed

Ehhhh...Rachel a redhead? Are you colorblind, by chance? Rachel is most definitely a blonde, no question about it.

    What WC4 needed

Indeed. VERY blonde. :) Hmm...though I've shot him down, I always thought he ejected. Least it looked like it. I don't recall Sosa saying anything about shooting Vagabond down....

    What WC4 needed

Who would that be? Flint is a redhead.... ;)
  9. OriginalPhoenix

    What WC4 needed

SPOILER WITHIN.... In the game, if you choose to wait to defect, Vagabond's death is strongly hinted at. After one of your missions, you talk with Paulsen, who claims that another one of the disloyal defectors was shot down. Blair questions him as to which one, and Paulsen asks "Does it really...

    Carriers

(Been on vacation, sorry for dredging this back into the thread, but....) In all my years of studying military history, I have never, ever, seen a reference that states the 'V' stands for 'aviation'. I believe the manual you speak of is merely simplifying the explanation I gave earlier --...

    Hellcat V, naming scheme question.

This goes contrary to just about every other source I've seen over the past several years, which stated the YF-23 was noticeably more stealthy (or more correctly, NOT more noticeably :) ), while the YF-22 was clearly more agile. This viewpoint was not base don external appearance, but ananlyusis...

    Carriers

The V in CV stands for a Latin word (which escapes me at the moment) meaning 'heavier than air', describing the craft that a modern carrier, well, carries. It does not stand for Vehicle, Vessel, or aViation.

    Carriers

Erm, LOAF, I may be misreading your post, but a light carrier has a different designation -- CVL -- than a fleet carrier class CV. And to add to other comments, light carriers have other significant differences besides just size and air wing, as compared to fleet carriers. They have...

What were the worst injustices in the Wing Commander Movie?

You're right...it HAS been discussed to death. The worst injustice about the WCM, in my eyes, is that people are constantly griping about it. In particular the appearnace of the Kilrathi always seems to pop up in these discussions -- for the umpteenth time, the movie version is the closest...

    Hellcat V, naming scheme question.

Actually, it would probably be more accurate to say that the F/A-18 is the USNavy equivalent of the Air Force's F-15E -- both have significant air-to-air AND air-to-ground capabilities. The Hornet is also somewhat smaller than the Eagle, has shorter range, and is not capable of carrying the...

    Hellcat V, naming scheme question.

I'm not sure from whence you git this info. As I mentioned, the Hornet has already replaced a number of Tomcat squadrons, and is expected to be opertational well into the 20-teens. Again, I'm curious as to your history. The F-14 was not initially envisioned as a strike platform, but as a pure...

    Hellcat V, naming scheme question.

Me thinks you are somewhat mistaken here. The F/A-18 is in major service because it's a multi-role aircraft (as the designation suggests). In fact, the Hornet is replacing the F-14 in some of the Navy fighter squadrons -- many carirers now deploy with only 1 Tomcat squadron but as many as 4...

    Hellcat V, naming scheme question.

Must have been one heck of a stealth aircraft...considering the F-19 does not exist. :)

    Hellcat V, naming scheme question.

F-14 Tomcat F-15 Eagle F-16 Falcon F-17 never reached operational status. The designation was assigned to the precursor of the F/A-18 Hornet as YF-17, which squared off against the YF-16 for a lightweight complement to the F-15. While the USAF decided to go with the Falcon, the Navy...
