A thought on the Rachel Flint debate

What, throw in a plotline where Blair becomes a raging alcoholic? Imagine having to do the T-Bomb run on Kilrah while hammered.

Toughest ace to beat in WC (any)

Bhurak is the hardest WC1 ace for me, because IIRC I usually fight all the others when I'm flying a Raptor. Dakkath takes a full gun salvo in the face in Gimle 3, Bakhtosh Redclaw dies in Dakota 3, and I think I get Khajjia in one of the Rostov missions. Bhurak runs away, and I can't catch him...

    Missile usage

Remember, in WC2 they added Chaff Pods to most every fighter. Also, the AI is damned good at using them IIRC. Usually I used my missiles on Sartha and Drakhri fighters, which don't have chaff pods. A missile fired at a Jalkethi or Grikath has a good chance of running into a chaff pod instead...

    WC2 Kilrathi Saga XP SP2

There isn't too much to say, other than WC2 for Kilrathi Saga was a shitty port. I know it sucks, but thems the breaks. Did you notice that InSys has replaced the Mass Drivers on their Ferrets with GAU-8 Avengers? I never noticed if Shadow's guns fired stupidly fast, or if it was just the...

    Star Wars Trailer

The reason the Emperor goes from normal-looking to Pruneface is Mace Windu. Apparantly, Windu and a group of Jedi go to arrest Palpatine. Palpatine kicks their asses, but not before he and Samuel L. Jackson duel. Windu does *something* to Palpatine before dying, and screws up the Emperor's face.

    Interesting bug with weapons ranges...

I doubt the CIC wants to be associated with that site, and the questionable legality of its content. Can't blame them, and they aren't the first forums I know of to block the links.

    Being Knighted

Key wasn't a captive of the British, he was a Baltimore lawyer negotiating the release of an American POW. That's why he was able to stand on the deck of the British ship and watch the bombardment of Fort McHenry.

    Naval Sims

Red Storm Rising will run using DosBox. No special tricks required, either. F-117 runs as well, but that isn't so much of a sim as an arcady-stealth bomber game. Diverging a bit from the Naval sims, the only hardcore sim I play now is IL-2 Sturmovik. There's not much that beats cannon...

    Naval Sims

My absolute favorite has to be Red Storm Rising. For some reason, I can't get into any other naval combat sim. Don't know why.

The Landreich "Republic" vs. The Union of Border Worlds

Wasn't that Lexington a newer-fleet-carrier-whose-name-I-can't-recall? And wasn't she trashed thouroughly, and later repaired, refitted, and sent into WC: Armada?

    Cruiser Confusion

The most 'realistic' loadout I can think of would be a Tallahassee with a flight deck. Anti-capship weapons, coupled with Arrows and Hellcats, would make for a nasty surprise. Think of it as a WCIV-era Waterloo.

    Cruiser Confusion

From the 'UBW vs FRLN' thread, LOAF's post mentions that the ships in question are "old revenue cutters." This sounds a lot like a customs boat to me, so my guess on it would be light, extremely fast, and geared against civilian spacecraft. Probably lighter weapons like laser cannons, so they...

What improvements made to WC3 in KS?

It isn't improved when the victory music in WC1 loops over and over, until you either die, eject, or land back on the Claw. Oh, how I hate that bug.

    Cruiser Confusion

So the "Fleet x" designation just makes it your basic stock vessel. No specialized mission or purpose,. The mystery cruiser is a "Heavy Fleet Cruiser," according to the WCIV novel, so one would assume that it's just a bigger cruiser than your average Tallahassee-class. Hell, the "Most...

    Cruiser Confusion

Being referred to as a "Fleet Cruiser" may give some additional guidelines as to the size and armament the Achilles/Agamemnon-class cruisers are, as the Concordia-class carriers (and presumably the Lexington-class ones, as well) are referred to as "fleet carriers." IIRC, these carriers' main...

    The Unified Space Command

This would explain why WCA seems to take place largely in Landreich space. Assuming, that is, that the Terran Confederation and the Free Republic of the Landreich were part of this Terran Alliance. Who else would be a part of this? I don't think the Border Worlds existed as a political entity...

    Cruiser Confusion

So there's an entire class of Confed cruisers that we have no data on? Interesting. Just for kicks, (yes, I am considering thinking up specs for this thing. No, it won't mount 8 PTCs on a Vesuvius-sized monstrosity that is lighter than a frigate), would this thing be heavier than a...

    Freespace 3?

IIRC, Broadswords did exist during the WCI period. They just weren't being used nearly as often (if at all) due to your ship's guns and missiles being able to punch through the first-generation phase shielding by this time. If you read Action Stations, which takes place way before WC1, we see...

X-com: Terror from the deep base assaults

First off, don't bother researching too much of the Gauss Weapons tree. Sonic weapons are so much better, it's insane. For example, the Sonic Pistol does more damage per shot than the Heavy Gauss. Clips are plentiful in the game as well. Zrbite is also a lot more plentiful, too. To get...

    X-Com: UFO Defense

The Firestorm is nice, but it has a very short range (but it's very quick) and uses E-115 for fuel. I'd rather horde the Elerium for fuel for the Avenger, and raw material to build plasma cannons where needed. Though, if you find a nice alien base, and start harvesting the Supply Ships that...
