I undertand exactly how you feel - a few months ago there was an Air Show here in Michigan, there's a B-17 located nearby at the Yankee Air Museum. I was on my home from work when it flew overhead to reach the air port the show was at, the sun was setting...and it was a totally moving moment...

It could be that it was already in the atmosphere, you're assuming that it was in orbit. Tarawa operated in atmo all the time - even setting down on a planet in Fleet Action. And we see that in the movie, too.

Probably the most amazing part of this is that Freelancer still looks pretty good today. So does Starlancer. They both held up a lot better then most of the other games that came out around that time. That address is only twenty minutes from here. Would it be worth driving over for a look?

You should look for the TIE Fighter Total Conversion for X-Wing Alliance too. It requires some sort of original copy of the game TIE Fighter, but will let you play the game with the graphics engine from XWA.

Every year gets better and better here - I was so sad when I logged in on Wednesday thinking it was the day...only to come online and find out I still had another week to go!

Can you really have vertical launch tubes on a space ship?

You could have the Confederation as playable side, and then have Kilrathi ships as 'caputurable' ala: Sid Miers Pirates as a way to expand your fleet.
