A Trip to the WC Universe is Right (May 4, 2012)

Interesting piece, but it seems to cater for a very special-interest, steam-punk-nostalgia-with-WC-background target group. I wonder who wrote it...

    Where do I "Quit" from??

I haven't found a way to quit while docked, but haven't been looking too hard either. I usually dock, save via the Quine, launch & quit.

What if... - Wing Commander never happened?

That actually was my take when I asked myself the starting question. In a way, the final releases of Wing Commander and the start of my 'online life' converged. It wasn't just playing a computer game and talking about it in the school bus or the recess area nerd corner, there suddenly was a...

    Different Direction....Robotech?

There used to be a Macross fan project six or seven years ago, maybe you can get into touch with some of the folks and see if they had any ideas. Unfortunately, the mod seems to be dysfunct now. Ah, found it: Macross: DYRL

    Where do I "Quit" from??

Welcome to the zone, Privateer13! Enjoy your stay, there's much to be discovered :) As for your question: For me (currently on Ubuntu 10.10), "ALT X" works when you are in space, and should bring up the "Press Q to quit" screen.

WC2 Mod Opens Home on the Web (April 8, 2011)

Thanks Deathsnake & team; this hopefully will make it easier to stay in touch with your project without intensely following the HL discussion threads. I know I've been pestering you a lot about it here, so let me also say thanks - a lot. Und falls ihr Hilfe bei englischen Texten braucht, kann...

Interview: EA: We haven't forgotten about Road Rash, Magic Carpet

Game companies have a lot on their hands today: The gaming community is getting bigger (and older), the number of platforms is increasing, development cycles are getting shorter, and game quality does not get better with all that. So having a bunch of old franchise names in the basement is a good...

What if... - Wing Commander never happened?

Trust in LOAF to tackle the big picture.. - WC paved the way for X-Wing, and showed that the formula works. Without is, we'd have the concepts from Starflight, Hyperspeed, Star Control and the likes, and in time, a branching-storyline, mission-based, character-dependent space opera game might...

What if... - Wing Commander never happened?

I like "What if"-threads, and this place is full of them: Story twists, technological development, psychological analysis of character actions... - exploring the hypothetical is so much fun. But I haven't found this one: What if... - you didn't get that first Wing Commander game on your...

    Unmanned Trans-Atlantic Balloon Flight Attempt

Quite a project. It seems to be very tech-driven in my opinion, with little detail given for meteological planning (how should that balloon reach the westerlies when launched in Indiana? Chances are good that it'll get caught up up in the trade winds, and gets swept west..). Also I'd like to...

    Halcyon Sun

To close this piece of thread archaeology: The subtitles in the German version of Halcyon Sun do not work, although the files are there. It looks as if something went wrong in the translation & file formatting process; the game simply can't read the files.

    Star Raiders Remake Coming Soon

I remember playing Star Raiders on an Atari ST, and it was a neat game for the time - zooming through space on hyperdrive, doing a bit of tactics on the galactic map, defending bases and cursing the slow refuelling pod... All that was pretty new, 30 years ago. So now someone wants to revive...

RELEASE: Wing Commander II Campaign Demo

With pleasure. Since I'm not an active participant in HLP, it's rather tedious to go through several pages of thread postings just to look up the install guide or the current status of the project. As a casual gamer, I want to give the mod a try, and decide if I mark my calendar to check back...

RELEASE: Wing Commander II Campaign Demo

Well, as much as I'd really like to play WC2 in an updated platform, this is rather frustrating. - Guys, isn't it possible to create a project website for your mod? Following a project in an HLP thread is not very practical. - Also: Creating a batch installer script is not very hard too, there...

If you're still watching this item, the description has changed a bit. And to LeHah: I agree. So it's just epic. @Chris: Great jacket.

Difficult Darkening Dialogue Deciphered (February 22, 2011)

Hmmm, can't find my English version, but here's what my German CDs have to say about it. The translation compared to the texts we already have seems to be pretty accurate. 6_S.TGV: Dr. Frevel talks about the "Anomaly Shield" failing: "Leider nicht, die Untersuchung läuft noch. Es gibt keine...

Difficult Darkening Dialogue Deciphered (February 22, 2011)

Hmm, I tried but have to give up, because I don't really know what I'm doing - video software is not really my thing. So the question is: Is there a simple solution, like a codec pack or a media player, that can play those files off the CDs? I've stumbled over ffmpeg and tried MPlayer on...

Famous Flight Suit Now For Sale (February 9, 2011)

Great, a real shirt from Academy. Epic fail. Just for fun, I contacted the seller to point out that philosophical inconsistency of the material and the immaterial - let's see what happens.

Community request: writing generic wingmen lines.

Here we are. It's fun to sit down and imagine a certain character, and great to deal with the camp potential, but also uncovers some hidden aspects: whoa, ladies, don't slap me for the pretty one-dimensionaly portrayal of a female ;) Sphynx, I guess it's a pretty steep task for many of the guys...
