    New 3D Thread

That Rapier is a thing of such beauty... I'm super tempted to build one.

What new features would you want in a hypothetical modern Wing Commander remake?

It's not so hypothetical anymore... Log onto twitch.tv/starcitizen in about 2.5 hours from now to get a glimpse of Wing Commander for the 21st century. Squadron 42 is what Wing Commander would be if Chris Roberts remade it now. Which he is, in all but name.

Star Citizen reaches 1.5M Backers, $120M Funding

So if anyone is interested, Gamersnexus did an interview with Chris, and another with Sean Tracy which will be posted later this week. Part 1: http://www.gamersnexus.net/gg/2613-chris-roberts-on-star-citizen-procedural-planets-alpha3-citizencon Part 2...

Star Citizen reaches 1.5M Backers, $120M Funding

As cool as the Gamescom demo was, it hasn't convinced all the detractors. We'll see if the Citizencon SQ42 demo plus updated v3.0 stuff will deliver the goods. I'm very excited.

WC4 Mod For Homeworld 2 In The Works (June 5, 2006)

Don't ask me to choose! It's so purdy..

Star Citizen reaches 1.5M Backers, $120M Funding

I read through it last week. It's a surprisingly unbiased and honest article, considering how poorly researched or one-sided gaming reports tend to be. Interesting peek behind the curtain of making something as ambitious as Star Citizen.

Happy Birthday Wing Commander 2! (September 4, 2016)

I think I understand. Sometimes you buy something so awesome, you wish you could buy it again.

Dare I ask why, Mr Reid?

Happy Birthday Wing Commander 2! (September 4, 2016)

Chris, you practically wrote my childhood story verbatim in that post! WC2 was my first Wing Commander game as well. It's hard to describe the impact it had on me, but suffice it to say it was one of the most influential games I ever played. Along with Strike Commander, this is what got me...

    F-103 Excalibur Model

Agreed, that Hornet is too big. Rescale with the weapons included, I think. It looks good though!

Star Citizen reaches 1.5M Backers, $120M Funding

I think I see what you're getting at. Fair enough. At least we agree that SQ42 should be worth the wait, regardless of how the rest of the game turns out.

Star Citizen reaches 1.5M Backers, $120M Funding

You saw something in the original pitch that was worth backing though, right?

Star Citizen reaches 1.5M Backers, $120M Funding

Yes well, time will tell I suppose. I'm confident that if anyone can pull this off, the CIG team can. Besides, you don't push the boundaries of gaming by playing it safe. Chris did stuff in the past while making Wing Commander and Strike Commander that few thought was possible.

I'm curious, what game did you back?

Star Citizen reaches 1.5M Backers, $120M Funding

Yes, he pitched a 6 million dollar game, and then suddenly ends up with way more than that. Most other people would have made the 6 million dollar game and pocketed the rest. Instead he decided to go all the way and make the game we funded. Having watched that Alpha 3.0 demo, I'd say it was...

Star Citizen reaches 1.5M Backers, $120M Funding

You really need to watch that video I linked... As for balance, flying big ships takes a lot of work and a big crew. They will be expensive to insure and hellishly expensive to outfit. Then there's the risk that one guy comes along with a well-placed torpedo and blows your big investment to...

Star Citizen reaches 1.5M Backers, $120M Funding

Keep in mind that this is the game Chris has always wanted to make. The features being added are there because they are part of the overall design vision. As for the ships, each of them represents a potentially different and unique way to play the game. Yes, Privateer was and is great fun, but...

    Star Citizen slow performance.....?

Sure, we'll probably find bugs the QA folks miss. However, SQ42 needs to be considerably more polished at release than the current alpha builds. There's "Oh look, here's a little clipping" bugs, and game breaking Arkham Knight disaster level bugs. CIG simply cannot afford the latter, given how...

    Star Citizen slow performance.....?

Squadron 42 is the next Wing Commander, the 21st century AAA Chris Roberts game. I doubt Chris will be happy if it doesn't work well out of the gate...
