    WC4 Remake

People like that will be be doom of us all, jumping head-first in the trap called platform economy because it is so convenient in the short-term. Yes, I am exaggerating :). But also yes, I think this is a massive problem. Disney, GamePass, Netflix, HBO and the bane-of-all-existence, Amazon, all...

    WC4 Remake

I approve of this. I recently managed to talk another upscaling-person out of it. When upping low-res stuff, there is only so much than can be gained and while 4k sounds nice, it is often not worth it, considering the filesize. Do a really good 1080p, that is where its at.

    WC4 Remake

Pedro and myself have continued this elsewhere 😉. Back to Wing Commander.

    WC4 Remake

You misunderstood me there, I just believe that we, as software developers as a whole, could do way better than C++, with Rust being a prime example of how to combine sensible programming contracts and language abstractions with performant compilation results and low-level access. As a lead...

    WC4 Remake

Yes, you are right, that unfortunately scares me off 🙂. In my humble programmer's opinion, C++ is an outdated blight upon the world and the sooner professional software developers (like myself) stop using it, the sooner it will finally die. These things take time though and we a stuck with this...

    WC4 Remake

Depends on the C#-task at hand, to be honest. Won't touch C++. PM me with the details 🙂

Big Mac Attack (January 29, 2021)

This was the thing that got me into WC (and System Shock), a present for my 11th birthday. Or 10th? A smooth, framerate-stable SWC still remains to be a dream of mine, no matter what real hardware or emulator or version (3do) I throw into the mix.

    WC3 Win95 Patch

Much appreciated. Edit: Fuck me, this works splendid. Using the NoScanLinesExe with the ddraw.dll-hack and it is pretty much flawless. Replaying WC3 next :). Got frustrated in the late battles of Tie Fighter anyway. While the base game is utterly brilliant, the lack of any sensible...

This has nothing to do with the browser, this is probably a permission issue. You, as the uploader, have an authentication cookie in your browser.

Not for me, I am getting a 403 from the nginx.

    Best Wingman??

Long ago, I also learned not to trust guides, even official ones. Plenty of them are written on preliminary information, aka pre-release. Same with game manuals, an example I always remember is Theme Park World, which had a last-minute change before release that removed strikes altogether. That...

    WC3 Win95 Patch

Really, such a thing exists? The main reason why I never bought it on GoG is that they do not have the KS music... I first played the Mac version in my childhood, I cannot go back to the MIDI.

    Best Wingman??

Do they really fly that different? In WC3 to 5, I always had the impression that it came down to mostly tweaking some parameters like how long they stay on target and how often the use the afterburner, not utterly different flying styles like Seether's AI in WC4. And in WC1 and 2, I fail to see...

    A Warning (January 13, 2021)

Do not let it be forgotten, that it is when the newspost is near-complete, the typo is most dangerous!

Video-chat compatible (physical) Wargame for you people...

Sure, it is freely available for everyone of try out after all, but you will either have to meet in person (2P to 3P) or play the TTS version if you are into that sort of software-alternative (I dislike it). Details about COREWARDS are in the thread on BGG, including some lengthy design diaries...

Video-chat compatible (physical) Wargame for you people...

I was touring the web to find more playtesters for my most recent board game project, which is pretty hard in pandemic times 🙂 My nice and really large board game collection is gathering dust, since meeting people in person is irresponsible, let alone sitting around a map of Westeros, the...

Squadron 42 Shifts Into Indefinite Pre-Beta Phase (December 29, 2020)

A good summary of my own lengthy post up there. See it for additional details about the why. I have made two educated guesses over the past few years and both were wrong. This is when I started looking to these roadmaps and the project's internals and what I found was described in detail by...

Squadron 42 Shifts Into Indefinite Pre-Beta Phase (December 29, 2020)

This is actually as much a benefit as it is a hazard. People always bring this argument up but believe the expert coder, that one requires utterly different approaches in a single player experience in contrast to a shared/synced one. The common industry approach is actually to basically only...

Squadron 42 Shifts Into Indefinite Pre-Beta Phase (December 29, 2020)

I am *still* looking forward to this project a lot but I must admit, part of the community around this game has become almost cult-like. I recently got flak once again when I raised a question regarding the The Reunion, Part 1, which was effectively yet another side-project, if this cinematic...
