A Revised Discussion of the Kilrathi Language

Playing with the Kilrathi language is no more crazy than playing with the Klingon language or with Tolkien's Elven language.

Probably a dumb question - WC2 Helmet - Blurred word?

WC2 characters seem to have their callsigns printed on their helmets, but since you are allowed to choose Blair/Bluehair's callsign, his is blurred out so that you can imagine that it is whatever name you chose for him.

A Revised Discussion of the Kilrathi Language

To respond to the newspost about this thread, where Cap was trying to figure out what "animalculous" means, the word "animalcule" is an archaic term for what we today would call microbes (i.e. one-celled creatures). Thus, the Major-General is asserting that he knows the scientific names of many...

Awesome visuals! You've combined just the right amount of nostalgia with more modern graphical effects.

WC1 SM2 Mission 15 (Next To Last Mission) - Maniac was amazing =oP

Well, Maniac IS infamous for an incident where he got two Kilrathi destroyers to collide with each other . . .

    Wing Commander Flat Universe

Hmmm, perhaps a "whoosh" sound at the last second for an asteroid that is going to pass over you instead of striking? (but only plays if it is going to "almost" hit you--not if it's passing to the left or right) Or conversely, the sound plays for one that IS going to strike you? The thought is...

    Wing Commander Flat Universe

Well a non-visual indication would work as well. :D But seriously, either we should be able to tell whether or not we can safely let the asteroid pass "over/under" us, or else the speed and density of the asteroid field needs to be such that it is reasonably possible to just dodge them all...

    Wing Commander Flat Universe

As long as we get some kind of visual indication of whether or not an object is on the same plane with us (and thus a collision hazard or something to shoot at). Oh, I have read the Planiverse--very nice book.

    Wing Commander Flat Universe

Neat demo! One question: I see the Hornet in the demo flying "above" and "below" some of the asteroids, implying that the asteroids are not all in the same 2-D plane. However, since some of the asteroids bounce off of the shields, it is also clear that it is possible to collide with some of...

    General tip for fighting?

Also, don't forget what Paladin said about Salthis and Dralthis. Salthis always break to their left, never to their right, while Dralthis tend to pull up for an inside loop or Immelmann (their pitch turning rate is faster than their yaw turning rate). The details on the A.I. routines (i.e. the...

How to survive in a mine field?

Mines, unlike asteroids, can pursue you, though they are much slower than your craft's top speed. Think of them as slow homing missiles. Thus, if you fly too slowly, they will catch up to you. Don't try to afterburn though--you'll plow straight into one at those speeds. Keep your speed in the...

    Bearcat Reimagined WIP

The Bearcat was great except for the guns being so widely spaced that it was nearly impossible to get all four to hit at the same time on any but the largest targets.

Lunar Rover Lands, SotA Preview Released, Busy Weekend! (December 15, 2013)

Chang'e III landed at least a couple hundred kilometers away from any other human-made object, so it's not exactly going to drive up to any landing sites. However, the Lunar Reconnaissance Rover did take orbital photographs of the Apollo landing sites with enough resolution to identify a number...
