    What's Next for Wing Commander?

Um, Star Citizen has 424 thousand backers as of today, and it doesn't even have a release date yet. How many will it have by the release date? 600 thousand? 700? And how many post-release sales will it have if it has that many pre-release sales? The current 424 thousand could easily translate to...

    Increased Bullet Speed?

Yes, the Stiletto's short-ranged mass driver guns mean that you have to get in close, which is deadly for light fighters especially when they are fighting something with rear turrets. Still, I would rather be flying a Stiletto than the even more fragile Epee or Ferret.

Wing commander 3 losing track experience

On the other hand, it is fitting that Blair would get to die the same way that Angel died at the beginning of the game--getting personally gutted by Thrakhath after spitting an insult into his face.

Is it at all possible to fan-make/remake/mod a WC multiplayer game?

Yeah, seriously, WC1 was made to run on a 386 at 32 MHz with 640 kB of RAM free. Today's computers are literally one hundred times faster, with ten thousand times as much memory (3 GHz and 4-16 GB of RAM).

    New 3D Thread

I think it's more a matter of power-to-mass ratio and fuel fraction. A capital ship could hypothetically fly like a scaled-up fighter, but it would have to have powerplants, engines, inertial dampers, and a fuel fraction comparable in relative size to a fighter (leaving no room for reasonable...

    Nixon's Apollo 11 'failure' speech

If you listen to the recording of the descent, or read the transcript, you'll hear Aldrin notifying Armstrong (and Mission Control) of the 1201 and 1202 alarms--these refer to the computer overload. The 1201 alarm was effectively an "out of memory" error...

    Nixon's Apollo 11 'failure' speech

Collins would have flow back alone with the Command Module, yes. Since there was no way to get another lander to the astronauts before the ones on the lunar surface ran out of consumables (less than a week), there would be nothing that could be done for them if their lander failed to lift off...

I see the setup as being sort of like how a single tug will pull/push an entire row of barges along a river or harbor.

A Revised Discussion of the Kilrathi Language

It does depend a lot on whether Shiva (the aforementioned Destroyer) is being depicted as "consuming" that which he destroys (e.g. as a fire consumes that which is burnt), or simply annihilating it.

Who's in charge? - Kilrathi military and clans

The "mixing crews in Imperial units in order to keep the unit from having loyalty to a home clan above their loyalty to the Empire" approach makes perfect sense--it's exactly how the US Army has been organized since the end of the American Civil War. Before said war, each Regiment was from this...

A Revised Discussion of the Kilrathi Language

I have no clue what song it is, but then again I could count the number of Country songs that I know on the fingers of one hand.

Who's in charge? - Kilrathi military and clans

On having different "orders" of concubines, I can see the nobility distinguishing between mistresses of high birth (i.e. ones who could have hypothetically married the male in question if he did not already have his full quota of allowed wives, and whose offspring by him could either be made...

Who's in charge? - Kilrathi military and clans

The age at which a Kil is ready for service would also depend a lot on how much training/education is needed. For infantry enlisted/drafted from the commoners, they may not need to know much more than basic reading/writing/arithmetic and history/indoctrination before enlisting (i.e. equivalent...

It's the same problem that was had with computer games before the mid-1990s--the tech can't live up to the vision yet.

    New 3D Thread

Nah there's aerodynamic torsion forces on the wings to worry about as well if you roll faster (or at a higher airspeed) than the aircraft is designed to tolerate. Do it too recklessly and you'll bend/break a wingtip.

Who owns the rights to Wing Commander?

I'd like to see them going all the way back to the beginning of the war actually--have a minor skirmish or two in the "tutorial" part and then the Battle of McAullife happens (and maybe you get to fight in it), and it goes from there.

    New 3D Thread

A 747 or a B-52 can do a barrel roll as well as long as the airspeed is not too high (stress) or too low (stall), so I have no problem believing something Venture-sized could do the same.

Keyboards with discrete keys still fill a function that touchscreen "virtual keyboards" can not--you get tactile feedback from every touch, which is pretty vital to being able to touch-type with any speed--I defy you to find somebody who can type sixty or more words per minute on an iPad screen...
