    ARENA COMMANDER IS OUT

    Good thing you have insurance . . . :D

new member, and just wanted to share a thought on wc4

I think the only missions where the Dragon/Lance is mandatory are the Axius infiltration mission, the Flashpack missions (either the Vesuvius or Ella Superbase), and the final mission. The rest of the missions, you can choose the regular Border Worlds ships if you prefer (or the Bearcat if you...

Kotaku Reviews Wing Commander Academy (May 25, 2014)

For ten thousand bucks, it'd better be autographed by one of the actors, or by Chris Roberts himself.

    It's just too difficult

Neutron hits the hardest of the "cheap" guns, despite the short range. If you prefer heavy guns up close, they can work well once you have the level-1 Engine upgrade to power them.

    It's just too difficult

I agree. For one thing, you have absolutely no need for any guns more expensive than Tachyons, EVER. The pricier guns have less range and lower energy efficiency than Tachyons, and except for the Righteous Fire version of the Plasma guns, the DPS increase over Tachyons isn't all that great...

    Wing Commander Flat Universe

Yes, easy to avoid since the Jalthi turned and flew slower than anything that you were flying. It sounds like the Jalthi will be a little more nimble in Flat Universe.

    Wing Commander Flat Universe

Considering how much slower and slower-to-turn the Jalthi is, you probably should be more afraid of the Grathra. Every one of the Confed fighters in WC1 can outrun and out-turn the Jalthi by a decent margin, but not so much the Grathra.

    Wing Commander Flat Universe

Being able to see the depth-of-field (the vertical axis) in this manner also handily solves the question of how to determine whether or not your ship is going to collide with objects ahead of it. While the whole point of the 2-D gameplay is that players have no control of their vertical...

    Wing Commander Flat Universe

I find it interesting that everything is rendered as 3D objects with true light and shadow and even some camera movement even though the flight and combat is in a 2D plane. I had been expecting previously that the camera would remain fixed in the "overhead" position throughout flight.

WCPedia: Adding real world details to star system info

It might be good, but if any "real world" data contradicts canon WC-universe data, then the contradiction should be noted as well.

    Star Citizen Grey Market

I'm sticking with my 350R for the time being--it looks like it should be able to outrun what it can't outfight short of being in the middle of a large ambush. WC2 had generic rectangular hitboxes (a necessity of being able to run on a couple megabytes of RAM), while the Vision engine is able...

    Star Citizen Grey Market

That's a good point, and makes me think that the 350R is a good choice for solo play since you can disengage at will as long as you aren't too badly damaged.

    Star Citizen Grey Market

Quite. Even though the Epee had nominally superior weapons, the slower rate of fire and higher power drain of the Particle Cannons offset any DPS gains, and the Ferret was slightly faster and was more durable. To do well in an Epee required taking heavy advantage of the long range of your...

    Star Citizen Grey Market

The 300i seems to me to basically be like the Aurora but with slightly higher stats all-around (more module space, one level larger maximum thrusters, shields, and powerplant, etc.) It's for the people who still want a basic jack-of-all-trades, but who want something a bit fancier than the Aurora.

    Star Citizen Grey Market

Yeah, the ship setup is much more like in Privateer, where the default starter ship (in SC's case, the Aurora) is a crappy jack-of-all-trades, but all of the other ships that you can buy are great at their particular niche.

Is it just me, or is WC1 really freakin' hard?!?!?!

Also, if you are just flying at full speed through the asteroids or mines, then you won't have enough time to react. It's best to go at 150-200 kps.

    What's Next for Wing Commander?

A Mass Effect-based spaceflight combat game might be popular . I know that I was disappointed by the lack of opportunities to control the Normandy in space combat.

    What's Next for Wing Commander?

The pace of new funding also has kept steady at tens of thousands of dollars per day (between 30 and 70 thousand on most days). If this does not suddenly dry up, then the current 42.6 million will definitely be 50 million and possibly near 60 million by release time. So, the basis for...
