Wing Commander Standoff: Episode Five Released (August 11, 2009)

Add my voice to the echo of many sentiments - this release is simply epic. I love the enhanced shaders! Haven't tried the episode 5 missions yet - replaying the entire game basking in the glory of the new graphics and finding those additional FMV cutscenes. By the way, did my random poll have...

    Problems? Post them here...

I managed to fix that problem by shutting down audio acceleration on dxdiag. No big deal. In terms of the memory leak, during my complete playthrough I'm averaging 2-3 flights per crash back to the desktop. Everything else seems great so far!

    Problems? Post them here...

I restarted the whole campaign and was watching the prologue intro (game engine cutscene). I only hear the first two lines of Bradshaw's voiceovers. The rest was just text. I don't recall that happening before, although I remember the voiceovers during briefings being cut after the first...

    Jazz vs. Seether

Now I haven't played WC4 in a long time so bear with me... What would Seether the wingman say if you try to shoot him? :)

    Jazz vs. Seether

Scenario #1: Freestyle battle My verdict: Jazz is a two-dimensional cartoon character endowed with some great lines. Seether is a two-dimensional villain played by a real actor. Jazz wins. Scenario #2: Jazz's pistol vs Seether's knife My verdict: Jazz lost to l'il unarmed Angel, while...

    Gimle 1 help

The Youtube replay demonstrates that if you don't autopilot, the attacking gratha will usually be further away.

    Favourite missile lock tone

I heartily recommend anybody who hasn't played WC1 with PC speaker sound to give that a go. It's a completely different experience, and for some sound effects seem to convey the intent better than the Adlib/Soundblaster synthesis. The signature sounds in WC2 for me were the explosions - done...

    Favourite missile lock tone

The tone when you lock on to your victim, but feel free to discuss other in-cockpit soundscapes too. I find it interesting that WC1/2 didn't have an audible incoming missile alarm at all.

    Favourite missile lock tone

Personally I love the Armada tone for its dual-tone siren-like effect, nothing else sounds quite like it.

    Favourite missile lock tone

Whether it's a simple Heat Seeker or a ponderous Hellraiser Torpedo, ducking and weaving for a missile or torpedo lock is an indispensable part of every wingnut's experience. Which missile lock tone is your favourite of 'em all? The best music to your ears?

Making the Games: Devastator Artwork (November 13, 2008)

The AI wingmen don't use the plasma gun on capship components. I remembered one mission where all there was left was my fighter, a lone devastator and a hydra. The devastator eventually ran out of torpedoes and just went home :(

WC2- How Do You Defeat The Turreted Fighters?

1/ It depends on your PC but 5000 sounds reasonable. 2/ Your turrets do fire - you can see the turrets in the left VDU flash red every now and then.

    Messing with WC2

    1. Interesting 2. Please tell us more... :) I must try to spot his pattern myself. 3. True 4. 5. From my experience the Fralthra seem to have a definite firing arc. The AI tend to fire even if you are outside their guns' firing arc, though. 6. Watch DaveCasperMyer or Minzoferrari's...
