You're not taking into account two things: 1) This is Wing Commander, not Scientific American. 2) Flames of different temperatures can have many different colors depending on what may or may not be burning in the flame.

No, you don't need it, in fact, the original DVD-ROM drive was a serious piece of crap, don't even waste your time with it. I find Pioneer drives are nice and reliable.
