    Full Standoff Mission Tree

Heh. I guess I need to update my profile. I lived in Boston for 10 years, but I live in California now. Still, it's always good to meet a friendly ship! :) I hope the snow hasn't been too crazy for you this year (my family and friends all still live back there, so I know how rough a winter...

    Full Standoff Mission Tree

That's interesting. I have never actually finished "Rearguard Duties" without losing a wingman...so I've always gotten "Rescue Run", and wouldn't know if there was a different mission path you get for not having to fly it (I was just guessing). As to the mission names, I noticed that there...

New Wing Commander after Secret Ops

Speaking of poor translations, the Standoff team is planning on releasing German, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Russian, Chinese, and Korean language versions of the game, right? ... echo ... right? :)

    Full Standoff Mission Tree

And here's a rough draft of the branching description. The (unconfirmed) things are things that I still don't know for sure. For example, what conditions exactly lead from Destroyer Rescue to the Ep 3 winning path versus losing path? Obviously, you have to save the Sao Paulo, but is...

    Full Standoff Mission Tree

OK, then, here's a (nearly) final version...for now at least. Still, I'm open to corrections.

    Full Standoff Mission Tree

Does that mean that you also have to fly a Stiletto in "Too Much Company" and "Middle of Nowhere" (which are ordinarily Rapier missions)? Or does the Firekka somehow manage to get a few more Rapiers flight ready in that time? "Too Much Company" would be pretty rough in a Stiletto... It's...

    Full Standoff Mission Tree

Thanks. I'll get on the fixes when I have a free moment. Our of curiosity, did I get the episode names right? I just filled them from memory, and think I got some of them wrong. Don't have a chance (or a forgiving enough wife) to fire the game up under current circumstances... I played...

    Full Standoff Mission Tree

After playing through them all to make this tree, I HIGHLY recommend playing through the losing path missions. Several of the best and funnest missions in the games are on the losing paths. The losing path version of "Skinning Cats" is great, and "Backlash", "Rescue Run", "Flight of the...

    Full Standoff Mission Tree

I thought I'd share this, which I've been working on, with MUCH help from and thanks to Dundradal, who provided his episode specific mission trees for each episode up to 4 (and in fact from the whole Standoff team who have been answering my pestering questions). It's my attempt at making a...

Kilrathi Saga vs DOSBox, how I played WC again

Cleaning out my parent's garage a year or so ago, I actually came across a couple of ~8" floppys (they look like 5.5" floppys, but oversized). Now I wonder is those things could still be read! Not a clue what's on them, though...

    Difficulty levels and ship choices...

Agree. On Standoff missions where you have to fly the bomber (or when I chose it), I find them much easier if I turn the difficulty down (to say, Veteran), whereas on missions where I fly the fighter, the mission usually gets easier if I turn it up to Hero. However, another factor is that...

Wing Commander Games I didnt Finish!!

Privateer: I bought it, and after much work, managed to get it to run. Loved it initially. But it was taking too long for my patience to accumulate enough money to get a decent ship. Then I ventured out in the world before I was ready, as LOAF says, and got creamed. It discouraged me enough...

Standoff Ep 3 mission path question

Heh. I wish you had told me this earlier. I spent far too long trying the Kamekh mission over and over again trying to lose. It's impossible! If you eject immediately after launch, it's like the mission was successful...you get the same Ralatha strike. If you eject any other time, you get...

Standoff Ep 3 mission path question

Here's what I have so far. It's still a draft. I've color coded the missions that I've played according to the system that they take place in, but I haven't coded the missions I haven't played yet. Ignore the text color...that's my own notation. Everything will be black eventually...

Standoff Ep 3 mission path question

Thanks for all the information. I appreciate it. Wait, you can join the Pirates by just flying to their base on the mission that you find it in? I always assumed that, since they were red dots and I was way outnumbered, if I tried flying in, intending to defect or no, I would get shot to...

Standoff Ep 3 mission path question

Dundradal, These mission paths are awesome! I'm trying to explore all the different missions in Standoff, and they're a great help. I hope your Standoff Guide doesn't get forgotten...Standoff is a great game, and far more nuanced and challenging (and hence in need of a guide) than many...

    Why Warsaw and Sirius?

I haven't read Fleet Action (yet), so maybe this is explained there, but I was looking at the Wing Commander Universe map, and for the life of me I can't figure out why any kind of major engagement takes place in Warsaw. Since the Kilrathi's objective with their suprise attack was to crush...

    At last

Just did something I've been meaning, and trying to do for the past two years, in between real life's demands...I finished Standoff. Saw all three endings. I realize I'm about two years off the pace, but I don't get much time to play games anymore. I just want to thank and congratulate...

Kilrathi Saga vs DOSBox, how I played WC again

For me it's an easy decision. I own WC1+2 (and SM1+2, and SO1+2, and the WC2 speech pack) on 3.5" floppy disks. I own KS Saga on CD. Since I have a CD drive, and haven't the slightest clue how one would go about reading 3.5" floppies these days, I think I'll be playing the KS version... :-)

    Heart of the Tiger inapropiate?

I think you're presuming a lot about Kilrathi zoology here. (And not necessarily knowing too much about Terran zoology in the process). First of all, I don't think a Gorilla's teeth particularly inspire fear in anything, but their STRENGTH does...a gorilla could rip a man (or maybe even a...
