    A word on WC4 in Win2K - I'm working on a fix.

great work! sure, I can try both DVD & CD version...if you give me enough details I can try to modify the files myself... edit: i just tried and the CD version is working normally in XP, without the compatibility set on, so I guess only the DVD version has this bug...

    WC4 DVD Won't Play Choices

Hehe...I don't think I really deserve to be named a Saint :D Always glad to help. @Anomaly: lags? There might be a short pause when video clip is changed, maybe even a bit longer if the disc stops spinning...but this should be almost unnoticable.

    WC4 DVD Won't Play Choices

argh...this is exactly why I hate codec packs! Never had one & everything always works for me. They only create a mess with a bunch of filters nobody ever needs. OK...as I can see from graph.log, the new dll had absolutely NO effect. You can try the old version and you'll get the same error. It...

    WC4 DVD Won't Play Choices

Please try this version: dxmci_debug.zip. It should fix the spillter issue if this is the case. Any further problems, please attach the new log file (don't forget c:\graph.log as well ;) ). Hope it works!

    WC4 DVD Won't Play Choices

I was just reviewing the log file :D From what I can tell there seems to be a similar problem as Ligos splitter bug. For some reason Mpeg-2 splitter is used instead of Mpeg-2 Demultiplexor. It might be that the splitter filter is not Microsoft one (since XP should default to demultiplexor). This...

Wing Commander 4 DVD in WindowsXP (w/ DirectShow)

It would be fairly trivial to make a CD change in the game code. I agree, 2CDs would be stretching it, but perhaps 4 would be OK. One change could be handled by the game itself (DVD flip), the other 2 changes could be implemented in my dll. Since it knows what files need to be played, 2 'if'...

    WC4 DVD Won't Play Choices

Well...there might be a million reasons why it's not working on your system. I think my dll is pretty stable, it works for most users. There might be some DirectShow incompatibilities, so I'll need more info to try to debug this. Read about the debug version in the other thread, also try to be...

Wing Commander 4 DVD in WindowsXP (w/ DirectShow)

Yes...it's single layer. Of course you can't know for sure unless you test the compressibility, but as a rule of thumb a single dvd side usually fits on 1 CD. It would probably also depend if you wish to retain the AC3 audio or downmix to stereo mp3...plus it would make cd switching easier since...

Suppose you own the CD version? This would mean a substantial improvment in video quality and since the DVD version was never for sale...

Wing Commander 4 DVD in WindowsXP (w/ DirectShow)

Exactly...the CD version won't even load the dll :D But one of my friends pointed out an interesting thing...one could probably convert all the vob files to divx, my dll could be modified to load .avi files instead of .vob so you could theoretically make a 2 CD version :) (I guess each DVD side...

*sigh*...there's a detailed explanation on how to use the debug build in this thread (post #31). I didn't post it on my webpage because there's usualy a lot of common problems so please try to at least read this thread before posting a new problem... @Dervish: I also had joystick...

Is there a German WCIV DVD Version?

Well...I'm not native english speaker but I really cannot understand why you would want a translated version. The joy of hearing original actor voices & lips synced is far more important for me than understanding every single word. Luckily my country is too small to afford to translate...

Wing Commander 4 DVD in WindowsXP (w/ DirectShow)

Laserschwert: Regarding the sound issue...as I have already explained, the directshow graph is built during the first movie and than later only the source filter is replaced. Although this should make the filters reconnect correcty, it seems that your sound is broken afterwards. Rebuilding the...

Anybody still having problems with playback make sure you do NOT have Reclock filter installed. I've left it on yesterday when I watched a movie on TV and when I played the game first few movies showed ok, but then I only got blank screen. @Sordid: WinDVD might only install the filters but...

@TurboTim07: The last mail got through. Fix on my page ;). @THE_WUQKED: Yes, I've done a bit more researching. It might be possible to change the decoding routines in similar way as the high-res patch changes the exe. Unfortunately my assembly knowledge is not really up to the task :( I'm...

Wing Commander 4 DVD in WindowsXP (w/ DirectShow)

I'm sorry but I did not get your e-mail! @THE_WUQKED: I've checked Prophecy and it doesn't look good. Seems the decoding code is inside prophecy.exe, so at the moment I don't see any way how to change it...

Wing Commander 4 DVD in WindowsXP (w/ DirectShow)

I've also got an e-mail about the sound volume issue so perhaps it's better to explain it here. First...my patch has nothing to do about it :D. It doesn't do any decoding, it just sets up DirectShow to play the files the game asks to. WC4 DVD, lucky for us, has 6-channel AC3 audio, much the same...

Wing Commander 4 DVD in WindowsXP (w/ DirectShow)

You're giving me too much credit...this was only my first video related project :D. Well, I'll take a look but I'm afraid I can't promise anything. WC4 DVD uses standard windows routines to play valid dvd files, so it's easy to fake it and play it with directshow. AFAIK WC5 uses the same...
