GOG Galaxy and the wing commander series

There is a big difference between making a simple choice between a few dialogue options and intentionally failing missions. One is something you do anyway, the other requires going against an in-grained aspect of gaming (ie winning every mission)

GOG Galaxy and the wing commander series

That was what I was saying with "There should be some challenge to them or serve a purpose of getting players to explore certain aspects of the game they might not see."
  3. Iceblade

GOG Galaxy and the wing commander series

The achievements shouldn't be simple story choices or based on the player just playing through the game. There should be some challenge to them or serve a purpose of getting players to explore certain aspects of the game they might not see. PS Yeah the Art Dealer achievement is not really that...

    Full Standoff Package

S...T...A...N...D...O...F...F Go Standoff.... kill those bugs cats! :D
  5. Iceblade

GOG Galaxy and the wing commander series

What achievements would work with Wing Commander 1 and 2 though? I guess you could have a kill the maximum number of enemy capships in a single playthrough (this would take some work to figure out with a bunch of jumping between winning and losing paths). Oh you could have a "Snatch Victory...

    Full Standoff Package

So you guys ever nail all of the bugs? Any intention of a full package? Speaking of, I have two bugs to report: during the first rapier/gladius choice mission (the Ralatha strike one I believe), I completed the mission in a Gladius with both of my wingman yet Jean says I'm down to 11 Gladii...

Service entry dates for Confed fighters

So the Longbow could be stated as being built (or redesigned on an older craft) as a mult-role fighter rather than a largely single purpose craft (like bomber or dogfighter). The designation prefix may actually refer to the intended design purpose like the A for strike/bomber craft while F is...

Service entry dates for Confed fighters

Maybe the Longbow became TB-76 during the post war period (keeping its numerical designation), so when the Devastator and Shrike were under development, they received the TB-80/81 designations - probably after several experimental variants. By 2081, the HF designation is gone implying...

Service entry dates for Confed fighters

My (speculative) thinking on the Longbow in WCA is it is either a shuttle/S&R design that was converted (and redesignated) to a fighter/bomber shortly before the WC 2 period (for any number of reasons like a need for a cheap fighter-bomber for light carriers) or that it was an old bomber craft...

The Ships of Wing Commander (August 25, 2011)

Guess, I'm not the only one that's been browsing the news archive recently. Hmm.... this news post didn't seem to carry over very well to the forum.

Service entry dates for Confed fighters

Found out about the 2668 date and straight from the Loaf-o-pedia: It would seem that "skys" of the 2650s and 60s were filled with Rapiers and Hellcats, T-bolts and Sabres, Arrows and Epees and Ferrets, and even Longbows.

Service entry dates for Confed fighters

I know...necro, but this feels like the best thread for these questions: How certain are we regarding the épée intro year? I'm have to wonder whether the line from Lafong really means that the fighter was introduced in 2661. Heaven's Gate System - Series 5 - Mission 1 "It was my first time in...

    Starship Taxonomy

Excellent read, though not much of it was new to me, it is the first time I've read an article comparing modern day with sci-fi definitions for these classifications. And for cruiser, the Waterloo definitely fits the definition while the Tallahassee seems to just be a smaller/weaker battlecruiser.

Hellcat cockpit in the WC2 style

Sounds like an excellent idea that needs a champion... (Ie someone with a lot of spare time - so not me) There is one issue though... Wouldn't the Hellcat be rather common (or at least not new) by this point? The closest we have to a canon designation is F-42. Hard to see it taking a decade to...

    Unknown Enemy Upgrade

It doesn't sound like there is much left to finish it. What kind of tasks are left? I could certainly help with Pascal stuff.

    Unknown Enemy Upgrade

:( Pity. I understand the feeling, though. I was just wondering what the outlook was.

Hellcat cockpit in the WC2 style

There is just something so cool about seeing a hellcat in wing commander 2. I guess it is just seeing Rapiers and Hellcats in the same engine that really ties together WC3 with the earlier games.

I take it this has fallen by the wayside?

WCPedia: Adding real world details to star system info

It would only be for those systems that we know correspond like Pollux and Castor, and the information would just be what is known. So that is a definitive no to the idea?

WCPedia: Adding real world details to star system info

I am wondering if anybody thinks it would be interesting/useful/allowed to add summaries of real details about the actual star systems that Wing Commander used. For instance, Pollux is a red giant that was formally an A-type main sequence star. Currently the star produces the characteristic...
