Creating a computer-aided version of WCTO

I've been lazy the last couple of days, mainly because I had to stay in bed with high fever for the last two days, and probably for tomorrow as well. :( So I won't be able to do much testing right now... Just wanted to let you know why I've been keeping radio silence. ;)

Might as well be I'm stupid... I thought I closed the primary guns after incidentally clicking them. Good to see a Kamekh in there now! It's a bit weird that the Sabre looks way bigger than the corvette, but having any and all ships to scale would be a mess. (Especially once there's a...

IR lock still not working in turn 28 and the previous ones. Found another two bugs, though: I don't think I ordered Bravo 1 to fire guns at the Rapier in turn 27 CP - yet it did and destroyed Rapier 3. I'm pretty sure I just tried to finalize my IR lock on the Rapier in this turn... And the...

    Um, sorry - IR lock.

Yes, those are the ones I meant. Thanks for posting the link, Wedge! The Pilum FF would make for a nice background schematic, don't you think? ;)

Doh! You're right, it's the range that made all the difference here. Forget what I said! ;) Having now seen how this works in the game, I think it would be better to prevent players from wasting energy and/or projectiles. The issue with the FF is another story, though... Here it's the missile's...

A brief bug report: In turn 12 CP, the Sabre could target Pack Leader Alpha with its particle cannons, but not with the mass driver cannons. I'd say it shouldn't be able to target the destroyer, so what's wrong with those particle cannons? In turn 12 EP, the Sabre's chaff pod count isn't...

Memo for later: If there will ever be a "Preferences" menu for WCTO(O), maybe we could include a toggle for where pop-up screens will re-appear once you dragged them across the screen. I dragged them around and kinda expected them to pop up at the center of the ship again once I closed them...

Could we use some of the schematics from the WC1 blueprints? I remember some of them being on the CIC front page recently, and it might be cool to have them there as a reference to the franchise. :) I could also try to make some missile sprites and crosshairs, but I'll have to pass when it...

Happy Birthday, Wing Commander (September 26, 2010)

Well, lads, I think it might have been good old Paladin... :D And: Congratulations! 20 years... Unbelievable!

    Computer-Aided WCTO -> Timeline Update

You bet it has been offline! I've done all the initial play-testing with physical ship counters and printed maps, and I still have all the material here. :D The last version of the game map and ships actually looks very nice, but it would be way too costly to mass produce. (And we're not even...

Ah, this looks so much better! I've edited the link in my previous post, just to be sure... ;) One minor thing I noticed: For the Ralatha, it says "Maintain Forward Course" twice, when - in the first instance - it should really say "Maintain Current Speed." And it's showing the turn report...

For means of debugging, the real result (-1) would be more helpful - but aside from that, players should only see the lowest possible result (in this case, 1). That's how I always dealt with these situations in my own games. Good stuff! :) I can see you've been quite busy... Nice progress! I'd...

Keeping my fingers crossed...! Is there any easy way to get a log file for debugging, by the way? It might help to spot/trace some errors if you had a detailed log. (In Flash, there's a nifty "trace()" function to do the job, but I'm completely unfamiliar with php.)

No, since they'd need lateral thrusters for that - which, as far as I'm aware, they don't have in the WC universe. (At least I can't remember seeing a missile bank in any cutscene or ingame situation.) Another idea with missiles would be "magical instant movement:" You just take a look at...

Hm, seems like I managed to overread that part... I'd say just the target. There's nothing in the rules about splash damage, and I think that's okay. After all, the missile is very close to the target at this time - it might only affect another ship if it has currently docked with the target...

Creating a computer-aided version of WCTO

Okay, time for me to get to work on this project after a busy week - I went through all the ship charts Avacar published recently. Here's what I found: Drakhri - 4 DF missiles missing Broadsword - description: "Confederation's" and "bomber's" seems mixed up (font problem with the...

Not to worry - this version of WCTO has made more progress in a matter of weeks than its predecessors in months. :p

Creating a computer-aided version of WCTO

Um, no, I think you could actually specify which missile you wanted to target with reserved fire. At least that would make sense, since in a team, you could order your wingman to take care of one missile while chasing another. This would require another "Orders" window for targeting missiles...

Opportunity fire still seems to be problematic - in turn 126, Tango 2 should be able to fire mass drivers at Bravo 1. Now for the questions: I'm with you on all of the rule clarifications for missiles. Which means you should also be right with the math part of things. We'll see if it actually...
