    [2020-02] Some novel character portraits

Just realized I didn't have a word for "orphan" in the lexicon. k'hrai ("without family") would work, though I wonder if the situation would be k'nar ("without clan") instead. It strikes me that in the case where a Kilrathi youth loses both their parents, responsibility for their upbringing...

    [2020-02] Some novel character portraits

Since I began work on Elegy a few years back, I've considered Kilrathi society to be a lot like that of feudal Japan, with the particulars of the Cult of Sivar standing in for Shintoism and Buddhism with a few adjustments needed due to the obvious differences in philosophies. This would put the...

    [2020-02] Some novel character portraits

I can roll with that. Might still be a case of social stigma involved - it might be assumed that those who cook meat can't hunt. There'd probably have to be a level of distinction between cooked meat for lower classes and cooked meat for celebratory feasts, say something like juk = "to cook /...

    [2020-02] Some novel character portraits

It's most likely a difference in story design; even in Wing Commander 3 they mention how Angel was served up as a roast, IIRC. That said, it could easily be that raw meat is the standard in Kilrathi cuisine, with cooked meat reserved either for special occasions or for the very wealthy/important...

    [2020-02] Some novel character portraits

"Ni'dyaha'kdalpa erg ja'lhu ri'lek, laq. Ni'le durai dule'i'ni'wuni: NIS JUK!" (Real word twisting here. Assuming "allez cuisine" means roughly "go cook", it presents the problem of there being no Kilrathi word meaning"to cook", which itself goes back to Freedom Flight and the idea that "Cats...

    [2020-02] Some novel character portraits

"I've been thinking about what you said, sir. I say unto you in the words of my uncle: 'ALLEZ CUISINE!'" (I'll do the Kilrathi version later...)

    [2020-02] Some novel character portraits

I think it's a good likeness of Richard Riehle myself. One thing - the English is 'Pliers', with the "s" on the end. It's one of those English words that's always referred to in the plural (e.g. "a pair of pliers") even when only referring to one of them. "Ri'dyagar, kir'hra." I know...wrong...

Ni'hav eshma ki'ga du akjhalinTerran'hra, leki'ha... (Had to come up with a word for "draw/sketch" - used a diminutive form of akjhale = "paint / dye / pigment")

Ni'ha'q'rathrgk anruni ja'l gar'ha'kh'in da kr'deranigatarothraktakh dumasbalan eshchurnisektalan. (That sentence reads more like a statement than a question, so the translation is as such).

Kireshthrak'hanisk nisjha. (This was harder to translate than it might seem. I had forgotten that I already had a word for "millennium", while I had no word for "lies" in the meaning of "to be situated"...ultimately with with hanisk = ha nis'k = "is begun").

    CCG Trades?

Recently received nine booster packs and a Terran starter deck in the mail. Getting ready to go through them to see if I can any more to my collection. Afterwards, do y'all think I should edit my previous list or re-post the list to account for any new acquisitions? EDIT: Got eight new Kilrathi...

Does this wording mean that the Kilrathi pilot is still alive?

Not bad. Couple of points: 1. Which fighter is being tested? I'll refer to Freedom Flight here; apparently the Dralthi-II didn't have ejection seats (as Hunter found out), and that was set twenty years after the scene here. In WCRPG, I myself only put ejection seats on the Hhriss (a later...

Die fragliche Aussage war als Scherz gedacht. (Using Google Translate here, so hopefully the German isn't mangled.) The statement in question was meant as a joke. No memes involved; I was just trying to be funny with the whole Thrakhath line...

    [2020-02] Some novel character portraits

Oof...this needs work. For example: sinruni = moot / impractical / academic / irrelevant hraki = friend / comrade / companion sinruni hraki = "friend irrelevant". I would certainly hope never to be considered an irrelevant friend to anybody. But at least as written it's only referring to a...

Does this wording mean that the Kilrathi pilot is still alive?

From the description (particularly 'mottled and mingled' fur colors), I might suggest a housecat-type coloration. A tortoiseshell type might work pretty well; just a suggestion.
