    Wing Commander 4 screen weirdness

Ok, here's a new DLL so we can run a few tests. Instead of assuming (0,0) as the lower left corner of the viewport rectangle, the DLL now reads a couple of values from the file viewport.cfg, containing the coordinates to be used. Changing these values will shift the window accordingly. I...

    Wing Commander 4 screen weirdness

The crash in Win98 mode seems to be happening on the Cyberlink audio filter. I would suggest uninstalling Cyberlink... but since you can run the game in Win2k compatibility mode, you can leave it be at least for now. Ok, i'll try to cook up a quick viewport adjustment on the patch DLL when I...

Yet another WC4 victim, please help

I see in you DxDiag you have mpeg2dec registered, so I suggest going to the K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool and disabling it, especially it if it is marked as broken (under Codec and Filter Management, click on the DirectShow (x86) button, then disable mpeg2dec like on the attached screenshot). I...

    Wing Commander 4 screen weirdness

It's strange that you have trouble with Win98 compatibility mode but Win2000 compatibility works. In every machine i tried, i cannot run the game in Win2000 mode at all. What crash do you get when trying to run the game in Win98 mode? It could be relevant to understanding what's going on. I...

    Wing Commander 4 screen weirdness

Please post your DxDiag information and we will try to pinpoint the cause of this. In the meantime a couple suggestions: - Try setting the game to Win98 compatibility mode instead. - If you have a second monitor connected, try disconnecting it and see if it helps.

WC4 GOG Not Working - Virtual Protect Failed

Glad to know that solved it for you! :) Indeed, if you are unable to set the compatibility mode for some reason, give NStriker's patch a try.

WC4DVD from GOG will not play!

Hmm this makes me wonder if your problem is actually OpenGL related instead of codec related... Let's try pursuing this possibility. Try downloading GLView and save a XML report, so we have an idea of your OpenGL driver capabilities. (I'm attaching a GLView report here in case it proves...

Just checking, ffdshow now shows up as the video and audio decoders in Insurgent, right? Try using the K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool to disable the mpeg2dec filter (or unregister it) if you have it installed, to see if it makes a difference. (By the way, could you upload another DxDiag? After...

WC4 GOG Not Working - Virtual Protect Failed

Win98 compatibility should fix the Virtual Protect error. Still, be sure you do *not* install the game into a network drive. If you do, you won't be able to set compatibility options.

GOG.com's WC4DVD No Video but Sound

It is actually an NVidia, more precisely an NVIDIA NVS 3100M, which is an entry-level card but more than enough for WC4. This makes me suspect the monitor issue could be driver based. The external monitor is set to the primary display, as this machine pretty much sits on my desk most of the...

GOG.com's WC4DVD No Video but Sound

Great! :) Glad to know it is working for you. It hadn't occurred to me that the second monitor could be a problem, we should definitely add this information. Thanks for letting us know! (as a side note, my Win7 64-bit test Laptop seems to run WC4 with the external monitor connected just...

WC4DVD from GOG will not play!

The "ERROR: File not found" in Insurgent doesn't mean anything. In my freshly installed Vista machine I get the same output for the quartz dll, but everything works fine. Just to clarify: when you say the screen goes dark, what happens exactly? Does the computer stop responding completely and...

Yet another WC4 victim, please help

A few suggestions: - If you have any kind of anti-virus / anti-spyware software installed, disable / uninstall it and see if it helps. Even if you don't have third party programs, you should have installed Windows Firewall, Windows Defender and/or Windows Security Essentials, so try disabling...

GOG.com's WC4DVD No Video but Sound

Use the K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool to disable the mpeg2dec filter (or unregister it), just to be sure the game will load ffdshow. Also, try disabling options related to DXVA on ffdshow.

Uninstall K-Lite and reinstall it in Advanced Mode. During installation, under the "Select Components" dialog, search for "DirectShow Video Decoding Filters" -> "MPEG-2, DVD" and choose "ffdshow (libmpeg2)" (or, if you know what you're doing, you could use the K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool to...

Ok, that looks reasonable. I would probably try to use ffmpeg instead of Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder, but only if there are still problems. Can you get the game to run?

WC4DVD from GOG will not play!

Could be... although if the Quartz DLL were unavailable, i don't think DirectShow would be able to generate the filter information at all. You could always try running regsvr32 quartz.dll, wouldn't hurt. Other possibilities i can think of: maybe DirectShow is attempting to render the video...

Is that the full output? It seems no video or audio codecs are being loaded at all. Install K-Lite and do another test render, you should see a few more Filters show up there.

    WC4 GOG No Sound

Post here your DxDiag information along with a Test Render of one of the WC4 VOBs with Insurgent (http://www.cccp-project.net/download.php?type=cccpi, run the application and select the option Tools -> Test Render), so we can try to figure out what is wrong.
