Wing commander 4 GOG sound but no video

That's useful information by itself, it tells us that your problem is indeed related to DirectShow only. I'll post a new DLL tomorrow with a few extra debug messages, to see if we can get any more information. In the meantime, I would suggest unregistering the Cyberlink filters that are still...

Wing commander 4 GOG sound but no video

The log actually looks good, the rendering graph seems ok at first sight. I wonder if your problem is OpenGL related. If you skip the videos do you see the rest of the game correctly? Try downloading this and unzipping it into your WC4 folder. Basically, this will make the game use...

Wing commander 4 GOG sound but no video

I see some references to Cyberlink on your DxDiag, try uninstalling it to see if it helps. Some Cyberlink filters could be getting in the way. Also, please download these updated DLLs. When the game plays a movie it generates a wc4_graph log, please post it here, it should provide us some more...

    Wing Commander 4 screen weirdness

Here's something interesting i came across: from the looks of it, there's two versions of the WC4DVD EXE: on of them, is distributed with Pete's WC4CD to DVD patch and the other is distributed with the GOG release. These EXEs are not identical, and some important memory addresses get shifted...

Yes it is, in fact dwrap used ddhack as a starting point, but it was extensively modified in order to get it to work with WC4DVD (and in order to get it to play along with Dxmci... which, in turn, had to be altered to be aware of some tricks dwrap was doing). I recall i could not get the...

    Wing Commander 4 screen weirdness

I went through your log, but i cannot see an obvious cause for what is going on. I'll probably post a new DLL tomorrow with a few extra messages, so we can get some more information. Could you attach your dxdiag info file? It could provide some important clues as well. In the meantime, you...

Fredde: Glad to know you managed to play through the game without problems! Thanks for reporting back and letting us know. :) Adam: Glad to know it helped you out as well. Out of curiosity, could you let us know what kind of video card you have? Thanks!

Great, glad to know it's working now!

WC4DVD from GOG will not play!

Update your audio card drivers, if nothing else to rule out driver-related issues. A quick peek at the Gateway site indicates that the most recent drivers are dated 2010, while your the drivers listed on dxdiag were dated 2008, so some driver issues could have been solved in the meantime...

WC4DVD from GOG will not play!

Going by the log, DirectShow is hanging while trying to create the DirectSound audio renderer filter. This is very odd and could indicate something wrong with your audio card drivers. I would try updating the drivers and maybe disabling the SPDIF interface in the control panel, just in case...

WC4DVD from GOG will not play!

Unzip these files into your WC4 folder and try running the game. Once it tries to render the movie, it should generate a file named wc4_graph.log, with information on the render graph and the loaded DirectShow filters. This new file should give us an idea of what is happening when the movie...

WC4DVD from GOG will not play!

Try downloading this (posted to another thread) and see if it helps. This version allows switching between OpenGL and Direct Draw for rendering, so if anything happens differently we'll know it's an OpenGL-related issue.

    Wing Commander 4 screen weirdness

Great! :) Very glad to know this solved the problem for you! Between the ddraw and legacy renderer modes, I would suggest using ddraw, as it solves a few issues with the original game (no more palette errors on Win7, doesn't switch the display to 256 color mode, etc). Legacy mode is intended...

    Wing Commander 4 screen weirdness

Compatibility seeming to "stick" to Win98 happened to me once. Not sure about the cause, but i suspect it may have something to do with GOG's installer. I wouldn't worry about that... although if you want to try other compatibility modes, you may want to try renaming the wc4dvd exe. Regarding...

Thanks for the feedback. Results were not quite what I was expecting... but not to worry, i'm working on an alternative (a couple of them actually). I'll try to post more soon!

WC4DVD from GOG will not play!

Thanks for the file, going through it as I type this. Do you get a wc4_debug.txt file in the game folder? If so, please post it here. If not let me know, i'll post a new DLL with a few extra debug messages so have an idea if OpenGL is initializing properly.

Let's see if we can get this working for you :) There are a number of tweaks that i think *might* help... but since I can't reproduce the issue here, we won't know until you try it. Wish there was a better way. For now, i tried adjusting the viewport a bit more. Try unzipping these files...

    Wing Commander 4 screen weirdness

As i researched for possible causes for the viewport to become clipped like that, i noticed that the OpenGL documentation mentions the maximum viewport values depend on specific OpenGL implementations. This makes me worry about the OpenGL capabilities of the SiS card. I suggest installing GLView...

    Wing Commander 4 screen weirdness

Thanks for the screenshot, it does provide some interesting information! (there seem to be quite a few glViewport oddities on your OpenGL implementation, probably specific to your SiS card) I think i see how to work around it though. Stay tuned, i'll have another DLL for you later today!
