End Run Rollout Continues (May 8, 2018)

Actually, I never read any Wing Commander books, or any other books based on games. Except BattleTech. So, as BattleTech had a recent revival (the computer game), I decided to give the Wing Commander books a try. Starting with Freedom Flight, I have to say I'm pretty impressed. It really fits...

Potential solution for Wing Commander speed problem on modern systems

Actually, Secret Missions 2 for Wing Commander introduced the fps cap. But as it's a separate binary, WC1 and SM1 don't benefit, unfortunately.

Potential solution for Wing Commander speed problem on modern systems

@WallyWest WC2 comes with a frame rate cap ootb. so it will run much smoother than WC1 does without going too fast. So, IMHO WC2 DOS plays much better on today's machines. If you give it a try, let me know what you think.

    WC2 Cinematics reverse-engineering thread

Ha, finally I know why skipping cinematics sometimes takes multiple keypresses until it finally does skip.

    WC2 Cinematics reverse-engineering thread

SERIES.S00 As most other files, this consists of a series of "Groups", most notably the TextGroup. But, as you can see in the snippet below, this comes without any specific information on the timings of backgrounds, sprites, text color, music, etc. In WC1, a cinematic description contains of...

Just a space for collecting any findings. Anyone looking for more condensed information might want to prefer the thread over here: https://www.wcnews.com/chatzone/threads/wing-commander-toolbox.27769 INCIDENT.S00 SceneGroup/ScriptGroup: <SceneGroup> <ScriptGroup>...

    Wing Commander Toolbox

I wanted to take a look into cinematics. For reverse engineering, it's best to start with a piece that's small and (supposedly) easy to understand. I looked a bit into INCIDENT.S00, especially into INCIDENT.S00-ContainerBlock078-ContainerGroup-PlaneGroup-ScriptGroup-OffsetChunk.bin...

right, there's the missing piece. Thanks @UnnamedCharacter, any perspective not readily available in a slot can be reached by rotating. Thanks a lot for your efforts, guys! Highly appreciated!

    Ship rotations in pre-3D

In SHIP.V08.png, let's start at Slot #30 (left of #31, there's no label to it) The Claw is seen from behind, and rotated 30° left, right? Imagine the ship is flying ahead of you and that's exactly the angle you're looking at it. Now, the pilot pulls the ship up. You should see the Claw as...

    Adventures in Explorations: WC1 Edition

These images are killer when it comes to illustrating how this is done, thanks @UnnamedCharacter! This thread is awesome! Question: I only see 0 (no mirroring) and 1 (flip horizontally) in the image, but I think there should be 2 as well? Looking at the picture showing the 62 aligned images...

Nice. What do I need to do to have files that I can actually play in VLC for example? Just changing the file extension doesn't work :) I'm especially interested in the SoundBlaster files, btw
